Title: Rear Door Help Needed
Post by: THiNK on 20 September 2009, 18:07
My rear passenger door has the childlock for obvious reasons

Today i hit the remote to let the little one in and it didn't open, hit the lock but and open button a few times and nothing. All other doors and boot were fine each button press.

I tried with the key and also using the drivers door button controls and still nothing.

The window still works with the button on the door and with the key and drivers door button.

As I can not open the rear door I cold do with any help or comments you may have :)

Thanks,

CS

does the little lock pin pop up or does it stay down?

if it pops up as said its possible the cable has come unattached

if it stays down it sounds like a faulty door module

Stays down and when you pull the handle inside it pops up a little but you can not grab it to force it up or anything.

If it is the door module how the hell do you open the door to take the panel off to replace it?

Thanks,

sounds silly but give the area around the lock pin a good thump

the solder inside the door module seperates - a good thump might just be enough for it to make contact again and open the door

Trouble is you kind of have to repair it there and then!

Do you have VAGCOM to confirm if it is a door module?

I had this issue this time last year, If your is a 5 dr mk4 then you simply get in through the other side and take the door card off to replace the module,

OK i'm not sure if this is correct or not - I have been told that to get the rear door panel off whilst the door is shut and locked with the childlock they have to basically rip the panel off, but they have said damage will happen but its not their fault and I will not only need a door module (any ideas on cost?) but also a strong chance I'll need a new door card.

Can any confirm/deny or provide tips on me removing it myself.

Its sounds expensive :(

OK so we've managed to get the rear door card removed without any damage :)

Vag-Com is reporting  an issues with an unresponsive door module.

VW have quoted £170 for a replacement module and I'll get it on Tuesday :(

Just had a full service completed too :'(

Anyone wanna chip in a few quid to my car fund?

Just had the door module replaced. Guess what!?

It didn't solve the issue!

So apparently the plan now is to take the door panel off and drill the latch out.

New latch about £85 +

Time to do - No idea.

This is turning out to be a very expensive job!

Some one make me feel better!

I was very careful. I managed to get a http://toolmonger.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/duragear-flexible-shaft-screwdriver.jpg to use to un-screw the bottom two screws - others were easy at get at. Once done, there are two push/plugs on the bottom and three on the side to pop off. Small screwdriver to pop the door of one of the push/plugs and I could then get my hand in to do the others. Was simple really.

Did the garage that did the work diagnose it as the module or was it you? If it was the garage I wouldn't be paying for it as it's a misdiagnosis

My copy of VAG was showing it as an issue. There was no issue before it stopped and an issue since the door stopped opening. I was going to re-run it this afternoon to see if the new one had removed the fault.

Re-Ran VAG and the faults gone but the door is still buggered.

Anyone know how to get the metal door panel off in order to access the inner door?

I have a new door locking module but can not get to it :(
