Title: R Paddle shifters for GTI
Post by: JRG4 on 15 March 2021, 13:58
Has anyone seen anywhere in which you can buy the extended paddle shifters that the R has so i can hopefully fit them to my clubsport? (when it eventually arrives)

I was about to ask the same question. The MK8 R has longer paddle shifters as standard so we could do with someone taking theirs off to see if the fitment is the same. If they are then they should be available from VW parts.

Lots of third party ones out there but I rather fancy just the R oem ones.

Any idea if they would fit a 7.5?

I asked this when the first r reviews came out, nobody really answered. From looking at you tube videos though they look to be a different shape to 7.5 ones, could be wrong though.

Can’t remember which review I saw last night or whether it’s accurate but it said the mk8 paddles are different to 7.5 and to change them wasn’t as simple as removing the pin, and would require steering wheel disassembly.

Has anyone with a gti or gti cs looked into changing the paddles yet? Do they have the same pin fitting as the 7.5?

I’ve read the same somewhere - sorry, can’t remember where. If they can’t be easily removed, then stick on paddles are always an option, although with stick on paddle shifters I suppose there’s always a risk they might fall off.

The know-how for Mk8 stuff is still pretty thin on the ground.

Given that most of this sort of thing is done by performance golf owners, there aren't enough Mk8 GTI/Clubby/Rrrrrr owners yet to see much of that conversation get moving.

Equally the potential demand for third party parts manufacture isn't there either yet.

Never mind paddle extensions, how about paddle warmers?
It’s been bloody freezing at 5am this week and although it’s lovely having a nice warm wheel to hold, the paddles are positively ice cold!

This came on volkswizards channel yesterday:

Seems like VW have engineered things so they can make more money from modders! ☹️

Just spotted Exonian’s post lower down! Sorry for repeating! I was hoping to fit these to my Mk7.5 GTI, but £250! Think I’d rather go S2Ts.

For your 7.5 you can do for much cheaper and easier - check this video out https://youtu.be/mpPITcH_ZQ0

They’ve just made it harder and more expensive on the mk8 it seems

Looking at the two videos I'd say the mk8 paddles will come off in exactly the same way as the mk7.

Whether the paddle itself is identical i don't know though.

Yes, been there, tried 2 Chinese versions and removed both as they just didn’t look OEM. I reckon, like Fred says, that the pin will come out. There is no reason for the mechanism and electrics to be different, but whether VW will make just the (plastic) paddles, which must be quite cheap to produce, available is another thing.

Funnily enough it was this thread I was quickly scrabbling around looking for to post up the link, but the guy in the chippy was getting ready to hand over my cod and chips so I had to rush!
king monkey was well ahead of me I found out much later in the day.

I’ve only just actually watched the vid.
A bit of a faff to fit and quite expensive but reassuring to know it’s fully OEM I guess.

In a previous life I transplanted Mk5 Golf GTI steering wheels into both a mk5 GT TDI and a 9N3 Polo GTI so it’s not a particularly difficult job, just fiddly unclipping the airbag.

But at £250 right now I think I’ll suffer my Indian Elephant ears rather than going full African.
