Talk me into a Mk4! Newbie Information!
« on: 16 May 2006, 22:54 »
Hi All

Havent even had a chance to sit and search the forum yet, thought id just say Hi

We have a polo which we have had since my girlfriend passed her test just over a year ago, we are now looking into picking up another car and im considering a Mk4 GTI Turbo. She likes the look of them and I have no reason to dislike one.

However since Ill be driving it alot I wouldnt mind a run down on whats possible and what is not, I have an MR2 Turbo which is more of a hobby car now than a daily driver and I wont let her drive it. Im wondering what power is easily accessible with the 1.8 turbo engine, what kind of power does the fuel system, turbo and engine management allow, is it aN AFM setup, MAP setup etc?

A general rundown would be great in this area.

Also are there any common problems to look out for, especially when going to buy one. Dont want to end up with a dog that I have to do loads of work on just to keep road worthy haha

Regards and I am searching the forums!

no worries mate.

also see the a thread below by Ivor MKIV Turbo - he's put together the engine codes and what you can expect to see with a remap

alternatively you could get an oil burner  map it and ride the torque

Thanks for the replies.

Car looks great, I really love them in black.

220-230hp should be pretty nice to drive, Im not after too much power thats what my MR2 is for really, but i think 150hp will be too little for me.
