Red coolant...
« on: 15 July 2009, 13:20 »
My little cruddy 1.4 16v has the lovely red coolant in it.

Before setting off to an interview (irrelevant info) my dad was topping stuff up (and yes it was my dad) and i shouted at him for putting blue coolant in where red was as i didnt thinkyou could mix them (thats 2 yrs working at motorworld talking which meants jack shit)

Cars run fine since and i've done 500miles.
Dad told me it'd be fine.. im just curious! but i was going to top up with red when i got to the petrol station but obv dad filled it first.

he thinks im not capable of checking oil and coolant on the mk4! hahah!

Mk4's should only use G12 coolant, mixing coolants can cause them to solidify and bad things will happen to your engine.Get it all flushed out and buy some G12 from VW/GSF etc...

g12 has some corrotion inhibitors and is long life but otherwise its the same as blue stuff and wont really cause any damage (My old golf and the passat run on blue without issues)

oh and bloody ex motorworld employee's know nothing!! (I only worked for them for 10 months! :lipsrsealed:)
