Just had a return phone call from VWUK stating that the EARLIEST my dealer will have the car is the Christmas week and the earliest it will be in my possession is 1st week in January. So an extra 8 weeks from what I was advised.

Basically will have waited 6 months for a new car. Is any car worth waiting that long? Does anyone know what the process is for cancelling an order on a car that has been built, will i lose my deposit?

Well, disappointingly i have just received the same telephone call from VWUK telling me the same. Although the car is being built this week, i wont be able to take delivery until January 2019.
neepy PM sent.

Unfortunately I was told the same about a month ago, so I have had to cancel my order. I was told that I will get a full refund found the customer service shocking.

Nearly all manufacturers are in the same boat so unless you buy a car from stock that's already been built and had been sitting in a field somewhere how are you going to get a car any quicker?

It’s mainly VAG cars that’s in this much of a mess though. If you look at the likes of Mercedes and BMW, many of their cars are WLTP approved.

I went for a mercedes in the end, it won't be any quicker but what changed my mind was the dealer calling me a liar. Trying to tell me the car was always going to be here in January, plus that I ordered in June so enough was enough.

Seems like VW have handled this all pretty badly. Don't know if it's complete lack of information all round or just terrible communications. I get that people want new cars but if I really wanted a GTI, I'd be snapping up an 2018 one with a few thousand miles on that you could be behind the wheel of in a few days.

Lot more expensive to buy a used one though Jim. People have waited four or five months so an extra month or so isn't an issue if they really want that car. I waited nearly 6 months for my gtd back in 2013.

My first Mk7 GTD was almost 6 months.

My current one was 5 months.

I know WLTP is frustrating but I don't think the timings are too stretched over what is to be expected from a VAG factory order... the only faster route is buy in flight dealer orders, which most find unacceptable because they must have *insert name of option*
