OBDeleven scan - software version checking
« on: 16 March 2021, 13:14 »
I've got my OBDelevan dongle thing this morning.

Fired it up.... very interesting.

I thought if I posted this here you might be able to see if you are missing any software updates. You can't update them yourself but it might give you a clue as to why your Mk8 is behaving weirdly. Mine is reasonably well behaved.

This list of controllers is spec dependent - your car might not have all of the contollers mine does.

I've no idea how to export the controller info, so am typing this in here:

01 Engine - software version 3 (v4 exists)
02 Transmission - software version 3560 (v3561 exists)
03 Brakes - software version 0127
08 Aircon - software version 0340 (v0341 exists)
09 Central electrics - software version 0137
13 Adaptive Cruise Control - software version 0246
14 Wheel Dampening - software version 0456
15 Airbag - software version 0636
17 Dashboard - software version 3450 (v3460 exists)
19 Gateway - software version 7075
23 Brake boost - software version 0112
2B Steering column lock - software version 0040
32 lock electronics - software version 8640
3C Lane Change Assistant Right - software version 0276
42 Driver door - software version 0330
44 Steering Assistance - software version 1040
47 Sound System  - software version 4316
4B Multifunction Module - software version 1372
52 Passenger Door - software version 0330
5F Multimedia - software version 1666 (v1668 exists)
6C Rear View Camera - software version 0193
75 Telematics - software version 0067
76 Parking Assistance - software version 0230
82 Head Up Display - software version 2032
A9 Structure borne sound - software version 0001
B7 Start System Interface - software version 0703 (v0706 exists) (this is kessy btw)
D6 LED module Left - software version 9202
D7 LED module Right - software version 9202

So you can see that my car is missing a few updates (the detection for newer software is based on what other obdeleven users have found, not that VW have published the software release notes...)

From what I've seen, getting your dealer to upgrade the software is difficult. Basically, like any other physical part they need to report a fault to VW and VW authorise the upgrade. They won't do it just because you ask.

Also, I suspect like a lot of software.... a newer version could have just different problems to the old one!

Interesting Fred.

I’ll dig out my VCDS tomorrow if I can remember where I put it. I’m not sure if VCDS works on a mk8 but it would be good to compare notes if it does.

I suspect it might. OBDeleven doesn't do anything too clever with a Mk8 (yet?)

No reasons to imagine VCDS won't tell you what I was getting.

The stance from VW in the past was if the car was working then they wouldn't update software versions. You had to really complain about something for them to do anything with software updates. I would have thought as soon as the car is plugged in to Germany it would automatically update 🤷‍♂️

Oh yes, I agree with everything you've said here!

My point with this thread was to try to document and understand the Mk8 issues, all of which seem to be software related. It would be interesting to hear from anyone with a buggy Mk8 to compare these versions.

Although it does seem that the majority of the issues seem to have been resolved on later cars now...

Well, apart from things which seem to be design based annoyances.

It will be interesting to see what happens when my car sees the workshop the first time... which I am tempted to do just to see what happens. The phone disconnect is super annoying.

Hey Massimo!

I've seen your name elsewhere, you have written some excellent stuff!

I'm just someone who refuses to let things not be understood

There are a few different things between the equipment in your car and mine as you can no doubt see. The Aircon in mine is the three zone one for example.

So what build week is your car out of interest? Do you have NavPro?

Where are you? not UK right?

Hi there I am from Ireland.
Added myself here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=287611.0
My car is of build week 47 (166x are week 47 and less ,while 17xx are 48 up) and I also have 3 zone aircon.( so that's strange)
I have the Discovery Pro so have the 3 year Weconnect plus service and maps on both screens.
Yes I am all over the place, even on French, German and Italian forums

Ahhh ok Ireland!

BW 47 is the same as mine.... but I didn't pay for NavPro nor did I get it as part of the MY20 "free" giveaway.

As I know you are on the pulse, have you heard anything more about a later infotainment software for the B hardware? The Germans seem to be talking about a newer version that gives wireless android auto?

Here in Ireland the Discovery Pro was standard on the style and later models until week build 48. I think it still is because there is no Pro upgrade available on VW configurator and brochure.
At the moment VW has released a new software 1803 but only for the 816D (Pro) and 820D (Media) which have sw 1788.
There is software 167x (x been 0,2,3 take a pick) on the way for the 816B (166x) but no news of any cars with this version.
And I have me doubts that VW will add AA wireless to these (older) units.
So you have the Discovery Media which means you don't have the Map on the dashboard?
