Just ordered myself an OMP "Fast".

£68 delivered from the official UK supplier of OMP parts. Not bad!

Also think I've sorted a pair of Cobra buckets on MKII subframes for £40. They're not the greatest buckets in the world but they're better and more supportive than the Rado seats.

Well first track day done and dusted. The day was to be frank perfect. Started off soaking wet and chucking it down which meant we spent most of the morning exploring the car's and our own abilities in a slow and sliding manner. After lunch both me and my Dad went out with the instructor which was a real eye opener. After that the sun came out and the track gradually dried. With the knowledge from the instructor and the drying track we were both getting much quicker by the end of the day.

I'm now officially a Track Day addict and I'm already saving for my next fix! THe car was faultless all day and inspired confidence. It's the best £500 car I have ever bought, in fact it's probably the best £500 I have ever spent.

My Dad got some pics from the official photographers, given a couple of them a quick edit in photoshop and here they are for your pleasure.

Right so after relaxing from friday and having a clear head I have a list of things I would like to do to improve myself and the car.

* Foot rest for my clutch foot
* Get the camber set up for -1.5 deg on the front
* Some better shoes (Actual shoes not tyres!).
* Bigger steering wheel, the 280mm Momo is just too small.
* Get rid of more weight from inside the car.
* Fix the heaters so it blows more air on the screen.

Overall I was massively pleased with how the car behaved all day, it was a joy to drive and never felt like it was not enjoying the abuse. My dad kept saying "This is such a great little car" inbetween his manic grins and chuckling. The brakes were stong and fadeless all day and I was surprised how well the Yokos held up once the track had dried out. Will certainly be cracking out the R888's on the 25th weather permitting.

Bit of an update.

Not been on any trackdays since the last post but I have one booked for 1st Sept at Silverstone on the South Circuit. Since the last update the car ran out of MOT so I put it in for one and it failed on a leaking front shock, non functioning handbrake on one rear caliper and skyward pointing headlight.

As it's running Koni top adjustables the cost of a new pair of fronts was coming in at around £400 delivered which was a little frightening. Luckily I found a full set of 4 18 month old MKIII ones on ebay and managed to get them for £185 delivered. Mark (Veedubgti16v) also kindly donated a fully functioning rear caliper, cheers mate.

So with all that fitted it was put back in today and it passed.

Cost to date
Car - £500
Tax - £110
Grill + Lamps - £10
Small bumpers - £20
OE rear lamps - £10
New Orange front Indicators - £8
GTi badges - £10
Front splitter - £15
Paint - £20
Wet/Road wheels+tyres - £75
Replacement front Koni top adjustables (and spare rears) - £185
Two G60 Top Mounts - £22
Total - £975

Update time.

Fixed an oil leak from the Oil Filter mounting where it meets the block and at the same time knocked my effing timing out. Mark helped me get it right again though and have since completed another track day this time at silverstone. No photos I'm afraid but had a wicked time. It was a killer on fuel and tyres though.

All together.

Both rears look like this, not bad just loads of lose rubber picked up on the in lap.

Drivers front, a bit worn but still plenty of life left in it.

Passenger front, oh dear.

I need to get myself one new R888 for the NSF and also a full set of wets as the current ones are starting to get very close to the legal limit so no good if I actually have to use them on a trackday and to get home!

Not sure if I'll be doing any more days this year, maybe Brands sometime before Christmas. If no Brands action then it'll be the season opener at Goodwood in March.

Got plenty of plans for the winter to improve the car ahead on 2010 and will keep the updates coming.

Cost carried over - £975
Gasket for Oil Filter Bracket - £1
Oil - £20
Oil Filter - £5
Total - £1001
