Title: Hurdy's Leon Cupra 290 Black DSG.
Post by: Hurdy on 01 April 2017, 21:17
So, after a while away from tuning I decided to purchase a sweet little VAG performance motor.

Welcome to my Leon Cupra 290 Black MK3 DSG in Dynamic Grey.....

Car goes in for some custom tuning at Statller, so it will be 380bhp+ and similar torque.

Nice car Hurdy. What colour is that? Is it Dynamic Grey?

I was just about to say I wasn't too keen on the standard diamond cut wheels, and the I saw you'd swapped them for a set of really nice Oz ultraleggeras; much better.

Yep, Dynamic Grey. Best colour option as it is unique to the Cupra.

Went to Santa Pod on Sunday for GTI Spring Festival. Gorgeous day and managed to achieve Pod face.
Stage 1 e-tuners ECU and DSG maps with just an intake and did 12.83@113.91mph.
Best terminal of 115.56.
Better than I ever did on my ED30 at Stage 2+ with all the suspension bits added, stripped out and semi-slicks onboard!
To say I'm impressed is an understatement!

So, tomorrow the Cupra ( now known by the wife as Tommy Cupra! ) goes in for some extra ooomph at Statller Power Developments.
Stage 2 custom E-TUNERS mapping live on the dyno which should give good delta gains over their stage 1 custom maps.
Parts chosen to go stage two are:-
- Revo's 3" Scorpion Downpipe, mated for now to the OEM rear section catback.
- A Wagner tuning Competition intercooler - proven to give the best gains for this engine platform.
- A CTS turbo intake pipe - gives a less restrictive and smoother air flow into the turbo from the Forge induction pipe.

Power forecast is for over 400bhp and over 400lbft.

My e-tuners Stage 2 update.....

The car now goes as quick as it looks. The power and torque comes in very early in the Rev range 390 lbft and over from as low down as 2600rpm all the way to over 5500rpm, peaking at over 410lbft at just 3krpm and holding to 4krpm. Power peaks at over 410bhp with over 300bhp on tap at just 4krpm.
How does that translate into speed?

Well I can repeatedly run launches from 0-60mph in sub 5 seconds and the run from 60mph to 100mph is in the mid 4 seconds.
Next week will bring a trip to Santa Pod, where I will be hoping for a time under 12.5 and a terminal of around 118-120mph. This will be on full weight and road tyres using 99ron.

What is next?.........

Hybrid turbo.....you lot will love this!
Race map........high octane race map to suit.
Brake upgrade......Not 100% on this yet, but it will be appropriate for the car.

It's like 400bhp is base line for every car you buy  :lipsrsealed:

I'll be keeping my eye on this one, it'll be a new and different driving experience from your 6R for sure!

TTE470 hybrid turbo on order, should go well once fitted.
The 6R made 7.8-7.9 for the 100-200kph sprint at 500bhp. The Cupra currently does 8.1-8.2 for the same sprint at 400bhp. The TTE470 has been proven to dip the 100-200 run down to mid 7's....so quicker than my old 6R.
Power should be 450-470bhp with similar torque and good response from the hybrid turbo. Power peak should move up to 6600-6800 rpm and so the DSG will have its rpm limit increased to around 6900-7000rpm.
Hoping for a very low 12 second run on the 1/4 mile, if not something beginning with 11.
