I recently bought a mk 7.5 gti performance. Great car, but one thing bugs me. The active info display is not aligned with the driving position. It's set at an odd angle.
Anyone else notice this on their car?
-
do you mean its angled towards or away from you? (ie front to back - I can't remember which one it is...)
Thats to prevent glare...
-
It's angled towards the passenger and at a slight angle left to right. It's the shape of the dashboard.
Seems odd they did not design it so it faces the driver straight.
-
Can't say I've ever noticed this on mine, but after what you've said, I'll be checking tonight !

I've never noticed that!

Might be so the passenger can see the dials a bit?
-
I thought it might that. Once you spot it.......
Of course, it might just be my car.
-
Never noticed either. Hope I don't either, once I see stuff like this it plagues me haha!
-
So since reading this I’ve been out driving in the car three times to see if I can replicate, but I’m struggling to see what the OP is seeing.
OP, does yours point away significantly or is it ever so slight?
-
I wouldn't say it's a massive angle. But it is offset enough that it is noticable.
Maybe the height of the seat and angle of the steering wheel hides it. I sit quite low.
-
I'll try taking a photo.
-
Checked mine last night and I can't see any offset at all. Mine looks to the eye that it's parallel to the Steering wheel and lointing straight at me ?
-
I'm on my 2nd Mk7.5 and can't say I've noticed it on either. And I'm someone who notices stuff.
-
I looked at mine tonight. Definitely straight...
-
Sounds like a manufacturing fault. Thank God for that. Not sure I could handle that AND a volume knob where the power logo doesn’t stay the right way up! It winds me up in the wife’s Polo. Haven’t even got the GTI yet.
-
I went to the dealers today to look at another gti. The display was the same as mine.
-
You sure it’s not your head that’s not on straight? 🤣
-
Could be.
-
I’ll check mine (car) when I pick it up in 7 or 8 weeks. I’d definitely notice something like that.
-
I know what OP means. It can look a little bit skew whiff if you look let your brain tell you that because of other lines on the dash, but it isn't. Measured both AID dials to the back of the steering wheel and the distance is identical.
-
I was out in the car this morning, parked up waiting for a friend to arrive, and I can now see what the OP means. It's only ever so slightly angled, a few degrees max, but it is angled. I'd go as far to say that it's the entire dash that has the angle and the steering wheel might be the same!

Yeah same here. The whole drivers view with the dash, display and wheel is ever so slightly off. It really throws my OCD crazy some mornings thinking the steering wheel isn't straight and I need the tracking done lol

Sorry, my bad. I don't like to suffer alone.
It is a strange design decision though.
