Hi Folks
I just noticed that the black glass trim that surrounds the panroof on my TCR is cracked on the passenger side all the way across say 3 inches from side to side
No sign of damage from a stone or anything
Anyone seen this before , will warranty cover it , will it cause a leak , can it be repaired with filler even ?
Any help appreciated

OP, can you upload an image please? Mine is in the attached thread posted helpfully by Guzzle. My dealer is replacing the panel but expect some reluctance to help as VW don't guarantee trim apparently . If yours is in the same position it'll strengthen your case.
-
It’s the Same position I’ll try to upload the picture
-
I’m in ROI so be interesting to see what VW Ireland have to say
-
My GTI is currently in with VW having the surround replaced for the same reason. Brand new car only purchased end of February, noticed the crack 7 days later during first wash.
Apparently VW can't fit the actual surround as it has to be done by a windscreen fitter, they have had the car for a week already & car won't be ready to be collected until next Wednesday .... 11 days in total
-
11 days wow , well at least it’s being done - hopefully they will sort mine under warranty - thanks for the info
I’ve no idea how to post a picture !
-
To post a picture you need to use a host site. Many available, I use postimage.org. Set up an account, upload your picture and from the lines of code copy the hotlink for forums into your post.
-
I use imgbb, don’t need to sign up, upload the pics, select copy B.B. full image and away you go

Quick update - recieved a call from the VW dealership this morning saying the surround had been ordered but was delivered to London. When trying to reorder the part VW have informed them that all mk7.5 pan roof surrounds are now on back order.
I was then informed that due to the COVID-19 situation that the showroom was to be closed with immediate effect & that if things progress (which they inevitably will) then it's possible the whole dealership will close.
So I've collected the car without the repair being completed & will rebook when it becomes possible to do so.
-
Thanks for the update. So are VW replacing it under warranty? I've not heard from my dealer and haven't gotten around to phoning them for an update. Sounds like there are quite a few breaking then..
-
I’m still waiting to hear back from VW Ireland about mine , I’m
Just wondering is there any possibility that water can get into the inside of the head cloth via these cracks ?
As it looks like it could be a while before it’s fixed due to current virus crisis
-
No noticed any water ingress and I have pressure washed the car.
-
As unsightly as it may seem on close inspection, I would be tempted to put a line of black insulation tape over the crack?
-
I was thinking I might put a strip of tape on it as I could be waiting good idea

Yeah, work is being done under warranty. Having said that, my car was purchased new & I noticed the crack within the first week of ownership - supplying dealership was made aware on day 7 of ownership
-
Mine is cracked on both sides!! Dealer not reopening until 14th April, 9 months old 3 door, not impressed
-
Oh dear Scott! At least you can point them to this thread should they be difficult in sorting it under warranty. What spec/model is yours? Posting up some pictures would be useful to others as additional evidence.
-
TCR 3 door on 18” alloys, when I can work out how to upload pictures I will do
-
Well, the GTI is finally going back in tomorrow to get the pan roof surround swapped out & a few other little niggles sorted...hopefully

Good news, keep us up to date with how it goes. Still haven't heard from my dealer, will call them tomorrow. I suspect mine is on back order
-
Well, what was supposed to be a good day collecting the car quickly turned into a very bad day.
The pan roof surround (& a couple of other niggles) have been sorted...as I was walking to the car I could immediately see damage to the nsf door. Looks like the door has been opened whilst on the service ramp, 12" vertical deep scratch with quite a few dents.
I'm awaiting a call today from the manager to see how they propose to deal with it, I reakon it will need a few days in a body shop but should I really be accepting this on a brand new car ?
First ever VW purchase & so far it has been my worst, if it wasn't for the fact that the car itself is fantastic then I would have thrown the keys back & just walked away...100% the worst customer experience I've ever encountered !!!
-
Welcome to the world of VW dealers. Such a shame that the generally crap ( though not all), dealer network lets the side down.
-
@ADC74; that’s awful.
With that type of damage; a long vertical scratch and dents
- it’s highly unlikely another customer parked next to your car would’ve caused it when they opened their car door.
- workshop damage sounds much more likely.
With the amount and extent of damage, it’s highly unlikely whoever caused it wasn’t aware they had, so the fact that they didn’t tell you and they left you to discover the damage is pretty poor to put it mildly.
Does that dealer do a walk around inspection accompanied by you when you arrive at the dealers to check the car over for existing damage? The dealer I use does this, plus I take photos of my car in their car park so I’ve got evidence it’s damage-free on arrival if I ever needed to use that evidence.
Hope you get it sorted quickly without any issues. Please keep the forum updated on progress.
-
That’s poor, you’d expect them to be honest with their error!
My experience of VW dealers is limited to date. Had the car a year, supplying dealer was great but not that close to me. I live half a mile from nearest dealer so recently had the first service with them. No issues I’ve noticed, drop off and collection fine considering the current restrictions! I’d paid for two services when I bought the car, may look around after that to see what local independent choices there are.

Update...
Basically I've now rejected the car due mainly to the poor standard of the roof repair (and numerous other issues) Currently in the process of ordering a replacement which, apparently, is due into the country within the next few weeks.
The car has been reserved, just waiting on approval for the swap via VW...and this car won't have the Pan Roof, just think after reading numerous stories now & my own experience then this is an option best avoided.
-
Just to be clear, was the pan roof fixed ok (in isolation to the other issues)? Only ask as I have pan roof and a bit concerned by how frequent this has popped up as an issue lately.
-
No, the cracked surround has been replaced under warranty but the whole pan roof now sits a good 10mm below it's original position...and constantly squeaks when traveling over an adverse camber, the noise is present whilst the roof is in the open, tilt or fully closed position.
-
Thats not good.
To be honest my car has gone back twice already, once for leaking doors which soaked the floor mats and once for door handles not returning to closed which required a respray.
I think if I get the sunroof issue it would really make me think about keeping the car. As much as I really enjoy the car it has certainly took the shine off things and I never experienced this amount of issue with any car I have owned over the years.
Whilst I accept there's always the chance of an issue or two, but it becomes a PITA resolving this level of issues rather than more minor ones.
-
There have been quite a few reported on here but they must be tiny in number compared with how many are being fitted in total. Keep positive, it'll be okay
-
Well I'm now the proud owner of a 20 plate GTI.
Managed to get the colour I originally wanted, isacc blue, & it is simply a stunning colour that really suits the mk7.5 GTI.
Happily, this car doesn't have the pan roof but I'm definitely missing the dynaudio....wasn't able to spec this as the car had already been built.
Hopefully those who have had or are having issues with their pan roofs manage to get a better outcome than I did
-
Got the pan roof fixed and seems to be a perfect job at last !

Excellent news! Mine goes in in around 3 weeks, fingers crossed all goes well. And lets hope it's a permanent fix, that's my main concern.

How difficult/easy did you find the rejection process...? Were/are you with VW Financial Services..?
Appreciate if you'd rather not comment...

The repair which I thought was perfect wasn’t so perfect after a few days
The glass surround along the drivers side came loose , it obviously didn’t bond properly!
So car has gone back in to be repaired again
See what happens !
