Replaced Clutch Pedal Help
« on: 19 October 2016, 20:15 »
Hi

I recently replaced a clutch pedal to a Mk4 Golf ( Typical pedal breaking thing) and now the customer is complaining that his Girlfriend is finding the pedal too hard to depress...I located the spring in the correct position ( there only appears to be one way it can go)....any ideas on whats going on there?

Cheers

Martyn

The spring is im better condition than the previous one. Or was this not changed?
Maybe the actual reason the pedal snapped is because there is too much resistance between the master and slave cylinder

Thanks for the reply fella!...

I kept the old spring....when refitting I noted that the spring seat at the bulkhead end can only go in one way.

when testing the operation of the spring with the pedal i noticed the spring bends upwards when the pedal is activated and returns to its normal position when the pedal is released.

I did wonder about the cylinders ..tho the pedal snapped on the pedal cage itself..apparently a common problem

hmm

It is a common problem across the mk4 platform.
Done a few for customers and never had one stiffer than before.
Normally reweld the pedal aswell to make it less likely to happen again.

Where abouts is the car. I dont mind swinging by and taking a look. Im only in the f.o.d

2 heads are sometimes better than one.
I could possibly bring another car with the same pedal and see if that spring moves up as you say your cuatomers is doing

Depends on the time, gotta at some point Saturday go check a jaguar out for somone.

But I dont mind shooting over to have a check.

I can definately get hold of a car to check against then.
