Without sounding condescending regarding AG Car Glass Polish, try using less product. In my experience you can use so little that you can hardly see it cure on the glass with great results.

Evening all,

not sure this technically qualifies as detailing, but it served no other functional purpose than cleaning for the sake of cleaning!

I'm currently in the process of investigating/diagnosing/repairing problems with my motor, so its been a rather long weekend. As a reprieve of some sorts, i decided to clean the bonnet catch, something which has been bugging me for ages, because it was so very grimey. Twenty years of grease, carbon, road dirt and more grease!  unfortunately i didn't think to take a 'before' photo, but here's the 'after':

I'd nearly do the whole car with much, don't forget by the time you get to the last window they'll be loads of residual product on the cloth.

Jeez, those reflections Bec! Putting my car to shame, too dark to take a pic now but my rear plate isn't even readable at the min!

Lovely job! Car looks great. Right mine is definitely getting a wash this week, come rain or snow!

I've managed to get the first wash without rain since I brought the mk4.

Over the past few years I've tried a load of cleaning stuff with varying degrees of success, the last few months I've been using mostly Auto Glym and for the price I'm impressed, I still can't find a snow foam that I'm 100% pleased with though, I've just finished a Karcher one which did strip dirt well but never really foamed enough it felt like I had to apply more to get decent results than previous foams, I won't be getting it again.

A quick foam followed by a two bucket wash, a further foam, rinse, dry, High Def Cleanser, The Ultimate Deep shine, and finally the Gloss Protection. It realistically needs a good tar removal and clay so this is a must for next weekend, I started too late in the day to get it all done.

Alloys were done with Simoniz Ultracare Alloy Cleaner, they've done a good job but I think I'll be going back to Bilt-Hamber auto-wheel If nothing else the Simoniz smells far too harsh!

I had to take the photos before applying the Gloss Protection as it needs 30 mins to rest an I was beginning to loose light, I'm pleased over all, It would benefit from a full correction detail, one of the previous owners was a farmer and the Golf was what he used to get around it, you can tell close up and there are a few blemishes I'd like to get rid of, the worst are the ring marks around the door handle.

I'm pretty sold on plasti-dipping the whole car in the summer so I may just stick with that, here's how it looks...

Thanks!

It doesn't look too bad for a 14 year old car! Annoyingly I can see where I've missed spots on the alloys in the photos

Do you snow foam, if so what do you use as your Golf looks incredible?! And I'm sure that once you get that right everything else falls into place!

Jack.
