I’m assuming a) you haven’t had these fitted on your car yet and b) that some of the wheels are marked with a PCD of 5x100 and some with PCD 5x112 and they don’t carry both PCD markings on each wheel.

The 1.4 twincharge Polo GTI also had 17” Monza alloys but with a different bolt pattern and offset to the Monza’s on the Golf GTI. So if you’ve got a set of wheels where some are PCD 5x100 and some are PCD 5x112, it sounds as if the wheels you bought might be a mix of Polo GTI wheels and Golf GTI wheels rather than a complete set of Golf GTI wheels - that’s why I’m assuming you haven’t got these on your car yet, as the Polo version won’t fit on the Golf. If they’re all genuine OEM VW wheels, they should also have the other spec details, part number and manufacturer of the wheels stamped into the reverse side of the spokes;
  • The Polo GTI Monza’s are 7J x 17” wheel with an offset of ET46. PCD; 5x100, Part no. 6R0601025H. I think the Polo version was manufactured by Ronal.
  • The standard Golf GTI Monza’s are a 7.5J x 17” wheel with an offset of ET51. PCD; 5x112, Part no. 1K0601025BB. I think the Golf version was manufactured by BBS.

weirdly they are all stamped pcd5x100 and beneath that pcd5x112

If they have an offset of ET35 without the full spec details and VW part number on the reverse side, they’ll be replicas rather than genuine Monzas, which probably explains the confusing / conflicting PCD details.

Replicas of the genuine article are often described by the seller as ‘Monza Style’ alloys or ‘Replica Monza’s’, They'll also often have other differences compared to OEM wheels - e.g. larger centre bore size so the wheels can also be used on a wide range of other manufacturers cars (with an appropriate sized spigot ring fitted inside the centre bore), and the offset is usually more aggressive than OEM to give a wider stance.

The offset of the genuine OEM 17” Monza alloys for the Golf is ET51, and they’re a 7.5J wheel. PCD 5x100 is the correct bolt pattern for the Polo, and the OEM 17” Monza alloys for the 6R Polo GTI are a 7J wheel, but they weren’t produced with such an aggressive offset as ET35; it was ET46.

If you’ve been told they won’t fit your Golf then that’s correct if the PCD is 5x100 as that’s the bolt pattern for the Polo.
