Hi Guys, Newbe here!
I’ve had my 2016 Gti for about 6 months now.
Really impressed with car.
It’s a manual car without the sports pack options but enough for me.
Recently it’s started spinning up the front wheels at around 3000 revs and settles again about 4000. It’s doing it in every gear, even if I’m not heavy on the throttle.
I have checked all the tyres and they are good, Bridgestone Potenzas.
Wondered if anyone else has had this problem of has any ideas?

Its cold now. Cold means the rubber doesn't have as much grip.
Either that or your tyres are worn out.
Or both.

@Lionheartbeans; Bridgestones aren’t known for high levels of grip when the ambient temperature drops to winter temperature levels, especially if the roads are also damp. They’re quite a hard rubber compound, which means they last ages, but the downside is relatively poor grip and traction for a performance tyre if your car is driven like a GTI should be driven :smiley:.
I’d say that what you’re experiencing is most likely a characteristic of the tyres at this time of year. There’ve been forum members that have ditched their factory fit Bridgestones when they’ve still got plenty of life left in them for something with better grip levels.

Bridgestone tyres are abysmal, even so, I wouldn't expect wheelspin in 3rd unless the car has been remapped, and certainly not in 4th/5th/6th. Are you getting the traction control light coming on with this slippage in higher gears? If not, it's almost certainly your clutch slipping and not wheelspin as the revs pick up without the car going any faster. My R experienced clutch slip on a few occasions between 2600 and 3100rpm in 4th on the coldest days of Winter, with only 23k miles on the clock.
What puzzles me most is the possibility that someone replaced Bridgestone Potenzas with more Bridgestone Potenzas if your 2016 GTI has done more than 20k miles.
They are hard, and they take an age to warm up, but even when warm they're still hard, noisy and lacking grip/traction. I've ditched Bridgestones on 3 VWs - they ruin the car's capabilities.
If you've had the car 6 months, a garage is likely to rebuff any warranty claim for what they consider to be a wear and tear item (the clutch).
If it is the clutch, don't get a stock clutch replacement, they're crap. Get an updated clutch fitted by a reputable independent. My expectations of clutch life are 100k miles minimum if you don't ride the clutch at junctions (hard to do with an electronic handbrake).

Can only be clutch slip. Spinning up in every gear is an impossibility in a std GTI. Unless you are driving on snow.

Easy to tell. Put it in 3rd and floor it. If it feels like its spinning, then the clutch is definitely f**ked! :grin:
