Modified car insurance

Struggling to get so much as a quote from any insurance company with a few mods that i have in mind(springs, mild remap and aftermarket wheels). I lost my no claims bonus last year from a stupid parking incident and no underwriter will go near me, seems a bit extreme for a 2mph fender bender! Where does everyone get their modified car insurance from? I'm 22 and have 3 years driving under my belt

Are you just using the comparison sites such as Money Supermarket, Go Compare and other similar sites?

The insurers who have products on these sites, and other direct insurers who aren’t on comparison sites such as Direct Line aren’t really geared up for modified vehicle risks for young drivers with low no claims discounts (NCD) or no NCD. Insurers on comparison sites and most direct insurers have business models that are based around them writing large volumes of ‘standard’ business. If you do find one of these mainstream insurers who’ll quote for for you, they’re unlikely to come up with an affordable premium.

Unfortunately, with you being a young driver (under 25) with a performance car and a claims history, that will put you in a high risk category for many insurers. The fact that you’re now considering a few modifications increases the insurance risk.

If you’ve not tried a high street broker, it’d be worth doing so. Many high street brokers will have access to specialist insurance schemes for young driver / high performance risks. Alternatively, it might be worth trying some of the companies mentioned in the ‘sticky’ on the insurance board in this forum - link below;

Cheers mate, i've had a few tries with some of those you mentioned but all them refused to even quote me. Think i'll just need to wait until i've got a year back on my no claims before trying again. Just find it hard to believe i'm untouchable, one claim worth a couple hundred quid and i'm like an outlaw

They might be able to help. I’ve used them for years and the service, policies and price always knock spots off the rest.

I used HIC although I am (literally) twice your age. Previously had similar mods to you too.

Agree, A-plan excellent broker have both R and GTI insured through them. They do an inexpensive plus 25% top up on a right off or no recovery theft claim btw.

Just renewed with LV and out of interest I played around with my car details as was eyeing up some different wheels. Selecting modified alloys brought the price down! Only by £3 but still cheaper. Really not sure how the insurance industry works!

Managed to finally get a quote from someone, all mods declared £1670 for the year  Might be my only choice mind! Amazing what 3 years NCD vs 0 makes. Was at £600 a year this time last year lol. The guy from Brentacre was very nice though, said the premium isn't affected by any suspension or cosmetic mods only any BHP increases, think i'll be going with them
