ED30 Tiny dent... what price hit?
« on: 14 September 2017, 19:05 »
We're going to be selling our ED30 in the next 2-3 months, and I wondered how much to discount for a small dent it has from 3 years ago which we never had fixed. Pics here:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/2jglnANL7TMItO673

It will have done 115k weekend-only miles by the time we sell, and I'll get it MOT'd beforehand (it runs out in Jan).

Other details

DSG 3D,
Exterior is white, otherwise dent free, but a few stone chips
Halogens, area lighting/electric wing mirrors
Wheels: two have minor kerbing - nothing serious
-Clean, unworn-looking interior (Half tartan, half leather, not a commuter car, one no smoking owner)
Other features: Cruise/Centre armrest/Heated Seats/winter pack/Ipod dock (does anyone have an ipod these days?)
FSH - Serviced only by VW, including DSG oil changes, cambelt changes etc.
All in good working order including aircon.
Not under finance...

What should I pitch at?

If you sell it like that for x, people will say "I only want to pay x-cost of fixing it" and beat you down. So you may as well list it at the price you had in mind without the damage and accept it, or, get it fixed and list it at the price you had in mind.

It should be possible for a good PDR guy to repair that, provided the paint isn't damaged. I had a parking ding in almost exactly the same place on my Polo GTI last year. It was smaller than your dent and cost £75 to remove, so I'd guess it may cost around £100-£125 to remove yours.

The guy that did mine couldn't gain access to the rear of the dent to remove it but used a process where he glued small metal rods onto the surface and pulled the dent out. He did an excellent job and you can't tell the song was ever there now.

I didn't know they could do that sort of thing. I'll get someone to quote for it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Worth having a look at some of the PDR videos on YouTube; it's amazing the results that an experienced PDR technician can achieve.

The guy I contacted said he couldn't fix it with his system on account of lack of access to the rear - do you remember who did yours?

Yes, I posted details in 'The Good Guys' section of the forum - Dentman. He's an independent one-man business who operates in Norfolk and Suffolk. Link to Dentman website in the thread below.

I don't think he works outside Norfolk and Suffolk though.

Thanks - will see what his system is called and see if I can find someone nearby with the same.

Better off getting it fixed imo. It will put a lot of people off and the rest will be unreasonable over the cost to get it fixed. Should cost less than £100 if you've got solid white paint?

Yes it's solid white. Maybe I'll get a quote then. Agree it's easier if you can say "clean". I could get them to spruce up the alloys too.
