Cheers jv,

So here goes, this is my first Golf GTI, I bought it for £200 with a set of BBS alloys and a set of Teardrops (tax Jan '06 MoT Sep '06)  off ebay a few days ago after my 106 (no sniggering) was decimated by a woman driving a Jag...

Shortly after picking up the Golf I found it has a power delivery far superior to any other car that I have owned, but also it has a dodgy (Non Existent) Handbrake.

Its got some lovely rust and as some of you may have seen already a 'Weird Rubber Plug'.

But anyway, I've got some work to do to make sure it is truly roadworthy, like replace the Rear Calipers, put on matching Alloys! then get a Cat 1 alarm and remove the rust and then the fun ca truly begin. When I get Photoshop again, I will have some mockups of my plans.

Til next time, Steve!

Ha Ha!
I now have a handbrake!!
I found out that not only was the Handbrake cable buggered, but the rear calipers were completely seized, yikes!
Had a look on eBay and found some red calipers for £60, went to collect them, and he dropped the price by a tenner because there was a tiny chip in the paint on them.

Also fitted my Alpine headunit and component speakers, a pair of Blaupunkt coax speakers and iPod connector in the centre console, I'm due to give my GTI matching shoes tomorrow and will be fitting remote central locking on Thursday.

On my way home on Thursday night I noticed way too much light coming from my nearside headlamp, got home and found I was missing a headlamp lens, so went to euro car parts, picked up a new headlamp and fitted that.

Next on my list is Rust removal (been putting it off for too long!) A stealth shelf to hide my sub, some big bumpers, an armrest, 3dr GTI front seats (at the moment they are from a 5 door and takes 2 minutes for rear passengers to get in and out) and some 99RON Tesco Petrol

Well, on 30th December my car decided to go all weird on me.
I lost Wipers, Headlamps and my heater in pitch black piffing down with rain.
I ripped the bottom of my dash off, but couldnt find any burnt out wires.
So It went round to an auto elec and the problem was the ignition switch and a couple of relays. Fortunately he charged £35 for it...

I also got a pair of speaker grilles for the front doors, so the sound quality in there is pretty good now.

The heater matrix has given up the ghost, and I'm topping up every week and have moist and misty windows every evening.

The experience of not having a car for 2 or 3 weeks wasnt as bad as I thought, so at the end of january it is being put in the garage and my plans will become a reality.

These are my plans though:

Engine:
2.0 16v from an Audi
Either KR cams or a pair of high lift cams
Powerflow 2.5" exhaust

Interior:
mk4 dash conversion
mk4 heater & matrix
custom doorcards
momo steering wheel
momo gearknob
momo handbrake gaiter
Corrado Rear Bench
Retrim in Black Leather and Alcantara with Red Piping

Ice:
Split charge Battery system
Mac Mini carputer using a modified frontend of CCar
Extra 160 GB hard disk
GPS Adapter
FM Receiver (maybe DAB receiver)
USB Sound card with 5.1 RCA outputs
Alpine 17cm components
Vibe CBR 12 Active Sub
Alpine 5 1/4 components in rear panels
2x 400w  2 way amps
Touchscreen mounted in mk4 centre console

Bodywork
Smoothed Big Bumpers
De-Locked Tailgate
(Maybe) Z4 side repeaters if I can learn how to photoshop this...
Colour coded mirrors
G60 arches (colour coded)
16v bumb strips (colour coded)
Angel Eye spots
Crystal Headlamps
Crystal Fogs
LED indicators in Grill
GPS/FM/WiFi 'Shark Fin' Aerial
M3 Rear Lights
Respray

OK, this report isn't what I wanted it to be...

basically the car isnt a Dizzie rivalling beast, but a bit of a joke (a crap joke at that)

now I have a bit of time, I am using it to get the niggly problems sorted, which include the surface rust on the tailgate and the cracked paint on the bonnet.

I'm also going to be flushing the coolant another 200 odd times so theres no oil in there ( a remnant of the oil cooler failing).

Im going to either see if I can repair the exhaust or replace it as its blowing like $20 ho and get the grill ready for smooth big bumpers (with indicators sited up there)...

Well, since my last update, I have:

  • Removed the rust on the boot and tailgate slam panel
  • 'Smoked' the tops of the rear clusters
  • Removed the rear wiper and washer, and smoothed the rear joins
  • Sprayed the boot and rear end Matt Black
  • Flushed the coolant again x3
  • Patched the exhaust
  • Killed the fanbelt, so bought a new one
  • Fitted my sub properly and got all of the wiring hidden(ish)
  • Cleaned the Air Flow Meter and Airbox and got a new air filter

My main aim with the car is to get a mk3 interior in there, and also to turn it into a GTI-S (thats a 2.0 bottom end, and a Cooper S Supercharger ) which will be trez cool, mes amis...

The next bits of work for me are the following...

  • Remove the rust on the Drivers door and Bonnet
  • Remove all hoses and clean them out totally
  • Get a load of water into the water channels to flush it properly
  • Give the Inlet manifold a damn good clean
  • Polish the Inlet manifold, Air Flow Meter, Alternator
  • Clean Up and Paint the Rocker Cover and Cambelt Cover
