GTI Build Dates - Anyone got one yet?

More likely the Oryx white. I would guess that they make very few of these (not even 1% of Golf output) so probably no dedicated paint booth for that colour which would mean doing a campaign of them all together, and having a full cleandown before and after the campaign. Takes a lot of time to do the cleandowns when compared to paint time per unit, so they'll be collecting orders until they have enough Oryx whites to do together.

Just had an email to be told the order has moved from week 28 to week 34! WTF is going on at VW, he says its due to my choices! I'm waiting a call back now!!

I think it'll be the paint. Those special campaigns have to be well planned. Used to work at the Ford Transit Van plant in Southampton, and one of the paint booths was for specialist paint campaigns like when BT or Dynorod placed their annual order for vans. Obviously the VW Wolfsburg plant (assuming that's where all our Golfs will be coming from) is on a bigger scale, but even so - the ordering of Oryx White will be a relatively rare event - too rare to keep a dedicated paint booth open for that particular colour.

When there was all the talk of tracker "stalking", I came across a Passat being made for Pulman Sunderland supply (same dealer as me), just a few digits out from my order. It took 13 days to get from the day it moved to "in transit" to "your car has arrived". Looks like we'll get our cars within 2 weeks of build completion judging by that.

While I am gutted for you, at least I feel less alone now.  Did your dealer also include a finalised order document with the email he sent you?

Just got off the phone with my dealer, mine has gone from wk36 to wk39 unconfirmed now?? My car was the second GTI to be ordered by that dealership. he's had one order for someone called gordon confirmed as bw27.

Blimey, seems like things are getting worse, not better.  I know you didn't want it until September, but the assumption was September this year, not next year!
