Thanks for the pointers everyone!

I'll get it booked in for a service.

Here's another question though.  Is there a way for me to access the service history when it doesn't have a physical service book? (It's my first car that's not had a stack of paper documents!)

And the garage i'll be putting it into isn't an official VW one, should they still be able to update the digital service book?

Is it a VAG specialist or you just taking it to a local garage? You’re going to open a can of worms here but most will say take it to VW and I’d be inclined to agree (having previously asked the question myself) you don’t want to raise any issues should a warranty item pop up in the future. I think my first service was under £150 and my second was £219. If your going to be paying £99 for example at a local garage surely an extra £50 to have A definate VW digital service record and peace of mind is worth it?

Yea, fair play that's a good point. It's the first car I've had that's a worth a dam, so I'm in I water here haha. Probably best I stick with the VW garage.  Cheers

My Gti PP came up with a oil service due at around 7k on the clock last year, I rang up my local dealer and they said nope it doesn't as the car is not on annual servicing. I said well I would rather have it done anyway and they said you don't need to....I had to insist as they were adamant it wasn't necessary.
After that discussion I booked it in online and dropped it off and later that day got a call to say the car was ready and "oh by the way it does appear to be on annual servicing after all"  The bonus was I got the oil service for £99 due to a glitch on their website which didn't specify the Gti PP was exempt from the £99 oil service offer
If it was an older car I would have done it myself or used a local vag specialist but for a year old car I decided less hassles if there is a warranty claim for example.

I had to take mine to a local garage - it's a Leaseplan car with maintenance and apparently they now don't use main dealers for servicing...

The car was in the actual garage part for just short of 30 mins (as per dashcam) and I had the joy of an absolute dog of a C3 for the day as a courtesy car
