VW parts
« on: 08 December 2018, 14:47 »
Two questions for you guys and girls on the forum:

Where's best to source VW parts from? Direct from Volkswagen or elsewhere?

How best to find specific part numbers?

I'm trying to find a nearside side skirt moulding - the black bit that runs under the door as mine is bent where the other half kissed a kerb. I wonder if anyone has replaced one of these themselves?

Thanks,

TPS if you have local?.. the chaps there might give you a bit of discount

I have ETKA access if you need part numbers and rough price. Just N/S sideskirt you need checking?

I'll try TPS - thanks for the info. If it's no bother then yes it's just the n/s sideskirt,

Thanks in advance,

I had to replace that same part when my better half tested the strength of a wall with the side skirt. It’s quite a easy job although the new one (bought from vw) did require a degree of persuasion to fit. All I had to do was adjust the height of a few of the little grub screws that the skirt slides onto.

That sounds similar to what my other half did...

Sorry to bring up an old thread.

Some reviews online say this trim comes as two parts. An internal length with the screw holes and the outer length that you can see under the sill.
If it’s true does anyone know how they attach to each other ?
I think my two parts have come away from each other on the end. Thanks

This might help; Reverse side of sill extension, which shows a row of slot screw holes.

Looking at the diagrams below from the repair manual I found online, it looks as if the slot screw holes in the reverse side of the sill extension fit over threaded bolts that are screwed into the sills. The sill extension then slides sideways to lock it into place. I think there’s one or two hex headed bolts that are screwed into the underside of the sill extension into the metal sill to ensure the sill extension stays in place.
