Title: First ever Golf GTI and lease
Post by: daleski on 20 February 2019, 08:00
Well as the title says this is my first ever Golf and looking forward very much to getting it hopefully next month, coming from a Audi A1 1.4 TFSI to a Golf GTI 245 DSG Performance so should be a nice step up.

Stock white 5 door on a 2 year lease with maintenance

Owned a Leon Cupra FR 2009, Audi TTS 2008, so will be nice to have a faster car again.

Roll on March  :grin:09

Anything to look out for when it arrives apart from the usual (marks, scratches) ?

VW Golf GTI 245 Performance (MY19)
Solid White
No extra's

6 + 23 months with maintenance for £278
5000 miles per annum

Make sure they give the sd card for the nav. VWFS charge £300 if you hand back the car without it.

You won’t be disappointed, had mine for 2 months now, just done over 1100 miles, so pretty much run in - loving it.

Make sure you get some mats as it should come with proper Golf ones. Also you should get a iphone cable but I've had 2 GTI on lease and neither has had the cable.

Other than that, enjoy. Great car!

Right so mats and sdcard for maps, got it :D

Now just waiting on the lease company to let me know a delivery date which will be sometime in March, my only concern is I have stipulated I want the reversing camera which they have said it does come with so let's see if it's true or an older model which is banked and going cheap.

Oh and check the boot to see if the space saver wheel and jack are both there. That's another thing it's harder to argue after you've driven away.

Not anymore you don't, VAG group stopped that a year or so ago due to the difficulties with non-approved accessories and apple blocking cables that weren't theirs.

Probably a '19 model cancelled order so fingers crossed you'll have the extra options

All this WLTP has made things very confusing with cars that are banked with old/new spec or some new spec!. Originally I was looking at the R but the higher insurance, thefts etc put me off.

I did play devils advocate and ask them what happens if the car does not meet my specification but he seemed very confident it's the latest WLTP model with all the extra's which are now standard.

Car should be delivered to an address of my choosing so need to make sure the delivery guy sticks around so I can give it a thorough check before signing any documents.

If you looking, Blue Chilli have some good offers and ok to deal with, as are Stable I think.

Picked my car up at 28/12 and received a VW branded cable. Didn't ask for it, left in the console, but it is recorded in the Golf GTI as standard spec.

Just had a call from the leasing company and even though the finance went through all ok somehow the car was not reserved and the whole batch got sold without them knowing and even at the point it went through they where told the cars where still in stock (only manuals left now).

Now I am faced with a decision whether to do a factory order which may cost more or to look elsewhere with possibly multiple credit searches which will not look favourably on my credit report.

Bit annoyed about this so lets hope lease comparison can pull something out the bag and source me another car.

Worst case scenario they said they will refund me the admin fee so I can look elsewhere.

Give a VW dealer from a big group (such as Inchcape or Lookers) a call, and tell them exactly what you want, what's been offered and ask what they can do. Tell them you are ready to sign there and then for a stock car (which they will have access too).

I got my local VW dealer (who are part of Lookers) to match a cheap lease on a Golf back in 2016.

Lease offers tend to be there and gone very quickly as lots of brokers have access to the same deals normally with a limited supply of vehicles.

It's going to be a long few weeks waiting for the car to arrive (when ever that will be) still got this nagging doubt that it's a banked car without the RVC, traffic sign recognition etc.

Is there anyway of knowing for certain so I don't end up being very disappointed?

Also if it does not am I within my rights to reflect the car?

I had to wait an eternity for my car because of the WLTP mess, so I wrote to the UK MD for a whinge and was passed to the Executive Office where a very nice lady couldn’t have been more helpful if she tried.
I did have a query on the spec. I ordered as the GTI was removed from the configurator - she confirmed in writing exactly the spec when I gave her the VW factory order number.
When the car arrived it was spot on.
I’d call VW customer services on 0800 083 3914 if you have a concern.

Thanks for the advice it's much appreciated, because it's through a leasing company I don't have any VW order number to go on and also because I originally wanted a 5 door and that didn't go through they sourced me a 3 door but no clue if it's brand new, in stock but brand new or still being built hence my concern.

Will see what the leasing company comes back with today.

Just got confirmation that the 3 door golf gti comes as standard with the reversing camera so it's safe to assume it will come with all the rest.

Got some potentially disappointing news, despite passing the credit checks with flying colours, signing the credit agreement and all of the other paperwork, paid the deposit and being approved for finance they have come back and asked for 3 months bank statements which has completely thrown me.

Queried the leasing company as to how/why this can happen and they where totally confused as according to their records I was accepted for finance right away and no further checks where needed.

The only thing I can think of is because the white 5 door GTI got sold without me knowing, when they sourced me another car at the same price maybe the finance company did a second credit/affordability check which then got flagged up.

The finance agreement is with the same company for the same amount, the same term so 6 + 23 just the car has changed nothing else.

Anyone had any similar experiences?

3 months of bank statements can be quite standard for leasing. My old company had to jump through hoops with lots of their lease cars including directors guarantees.

That's who I got my current GTI with. Goes back in October tho.

Regarding the bank statements they asked for the same thing from me. We placed our order in August and car arrived in October.

Got some more info from the leasing company, because the first order didn't go through they put through another order which meant the finance company thought I was trying to get finance on 2 cars.

Leasing comparison explained this but they said they wanted bank statements anyway.

GUTTED!!!

The car is pre WLTP with no rear camera, no lane assist, no keyless entry and a brand new model VW are asking £500 a month for which is absolutely crazy

Lease Comparison are going to ask about getting my deposit back so looks like I may have to choose an alternative manufacturer

To cap it off I could of got the car on the 13th which is when I am off on holiday

I wouldn't be put off. The standard car is well spec'd anyway and it's a great car without the extra 2019 stuff.
Title: Re: First ever Golf GTI and lease
Post by: daleski on 07 March 2019, 12:39
The car was sold to me as the MY19 spec so this is what I expected and what my criteria was all along, happy to wait for something else as I don't want to pay for a car which I would not be happy to keep.

Fair enough. Although you can't keep a lease car! (well you technically sometimes can but not straight forward..)

Guess depends how much you want a Golf and how good the deal is!
Title: Re: First ever Golf GTI and lease
Post by: daleski on 07 March 2019, 12:48
Still would love a Golf GTI or even an R but not willing to compromise with the specification so going to cancel the order, ask for a refund and wait for this whole WLTP mess to disappear and will look at my options then to see how much a factory order would cost me etc.

Title: Re: First ever Golf GTI and lease

I'd be quite pleased to not have keyless entry. I had lane assist on my Octavia and found it so annoying i turned it off. Shame about the rear camera though.

I'd be quite pleased to not have keyless entry. I had lane assist on my Octavia and found it so annoying i turned it off. Shame about the rear camera though.

The rear view camera was the make or break it deal, numerous emails where sent to the leasing company asking for confirmation of this and what do I do if the car arrives without it etc.

It is a shame but I am patient enough to wait for other in-stock deals for new MY19 cars which meet the spec I am after.

Title: Re: First ever Golf GTI and lease
Post by: daleski on 09 March 2019, 10:37
Well this is an interesting journey.... it looks like the Golf GTI 245 which I should of had on March 13th was the older model with no reversing camera, lane assist, keyless entry so after cancelling the order due to their mistake they have found me another deal.

5 Door VW Golf R (2019 spec delivery for April)
6 + 23
£345 a month

So after all this it looks like I may be getting a Golf R
