Title: 19 inch Glendales
Post by: 09GTI on 16 December 2012, 08:59
Hi there , I haven't been on here in a while !
I'm thinking if buying glendales from eBay in Germany
Just wondering on opinions on the ride and look of these for the standard GTI rather than the Ed 35
My 18 inch monzas are a little kerbed from previous owner , rest of car is mint
Am I mad , cost incl tyres is 2000 euro the wheels have only covered 5km so virtually new and I need new tyres for the monzas anyway

Thanks

Not a massive fan tbh, but each to their own. Have you costed them via ya dealer as I can't imagine they'll be much more and be brand new?

Love them myself, wife has them on her ED35 and I think they look really good.  Would also look good on a standard GTI as well (they look virtually the same as an ED35).  Ride quality is okay, but all my MK5 and MK6 Golfs have had 19s so I'm used to them.  Not sure I'd pay 2000 euros mind.  Just in case you haven't seen them, I've got these for sale: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=238451.0

Those BBS's would look so much better. I'm not a fan of Glendales, and think fitted to to a standard GTI would make it look like a 35 wannabe.

I like the Glendales - but they seem to be a marmite wheel on the forum.

I would expect brand new from the Stealers your looking at £2500 without rubber.

Monzas were 2k from the stealers.

Couldn't you spec the Glendales on a "standard" GTi anyway?

I think it very much depends on the colour of your car on how Glendales will look.
True, they are a Marmite wheel, but I think they look great on a black or white car.  I have them on my black GTI and, no, I'm not pretending it's an ED35

I've had Monza Shadows on two previous GTI's and don't think there's a massive difference in ride.  Maybe a bit more road feel but that could be down to the tyres.  I have ACC and you can always stick it on comfort for a softer ride if you like.  That said, I like the connection with the road.  Here's a pic of them.

That looks spot on. I dont think its pretending either.

The TSI engine is the better platform to go for imo.

Yes.
Its why when i see photos of Edition 35 with the Glendales on i think they look less special edition as they dont have the exclusive 18" edition 35 wheels fitted.

Yep I've said before why get the 'special edition' version then put wheels from the normal GTI option list on it?

IMO edition 35's should only come with Watkins glen wheels.

Most the dealer domo cars I've seen all seem to have glen sales on too which I always thought was strange.

Thanks, though it's in a right mud spattered state at the moment

Agree.  ED35 wheels should be exclusive and not available on other models.

some nice reflections in that paintwork. paint looks really deep - what did you use on it?

Used Chemical Guys Butter Wet Wax on it that day but also use Collinite 915 sometimes.

Never tried PB's nattys.  The CG's butter wax is a dream to use, super easy to apply and buff off.  Coll's is a bit more involved, best not to leave it on too long and moisten it with a fine water spray to aid buffing.

I'm always up for trying other stuff though.

Booth 11 stunning looking car. Black looks best when clean but hard to keep it like that.

I am a real fan of Glendale had them on both my ED35's. Not that bothered about the Watkins Glen which is nice too but I am glad there is a choice.

I think the Glendales look good on any colour GTI here are my two Carbon Grey and Candy White.

Two beautiful cars you've got there Edi35.   Agree, the Glendales look superb against the carbon grey.
