As title. Anyone used these or can recommend any? Wazzer recommended some part numbers for Polo 6N top mounts but I aint so sure.. I'd like something tried, tested and made for the MK4 Golf.
Been looking @ the supersport ones for about 60 quid, polyurethane, lower the front a further 10mm (which would be ideal!)
Any opinions/reviews for those who've used 'em?
1) Do they drop 10mm as stated.
2) Is the ride any different?
3) Would I need some adjustable ARB drop links as I'm down 40-45mm as it is at the front.
Cheers

Again its no comment from me :lipsrsealed:

This has been done by a few guys over on UKMKIVs.
Hamidi on his 2.slow to 1.8t Conversion n Air Ride.
Olly(Olthalb) on his slammed to buggery R32
and a few others.
don't seem to be any complaints as of yet.
this is Hamidi's Post. Yes, he is bordering insane(ly low)
right, ive posted this up on my build thread, but i'll do it here too
shorter top mounts/cups compared to standard golf

Now, ive only had this in for 3days, no problems so far
i thought i'd say this first before anyone starts ranting about how its fooked up their car.
im not too sure if this has been done before with a straight swap top mount. it HAS been done with cutting the standard top mounts shorter and there's already info up on that (also refer to doey's build thread)
credit where its due
thanks to Olly aka olethalb for spotting this you crazy ass.
Now, the Part Numbers:
two x 6N0412319 = £9.10
two x 6N0412331A = £15.54
+VAT
~£28.96
THEY ARE OFF A VW 6N POLO

I'm certain I read that thread, and saw something about metal on metal from one guy running the polo top mounts which didn't sound ideal.. lol.
Rich, speaketh up :D We can discuss ideas aslong as it's not single mass flywheel conversions haha I think everything else is relatively safe :)
-
Again its no comment from me :lipsrsealed:
Why not
I am not keen on the idea, to me Polo ones are designed to work with a lower kurb weight so I cannot see them lasting long on a Golf.
-
they look pretty cool.. theres not room for error though his wheel is about 1.5mm from smashing the arch lol it makes me wonder how people get about..

I guess they don't use the car much, 5mins on the roads around here and they would be knackered.
-
+1 on that Wayne roads near me can be lethal i once bent a steel wheel in half from a pot hole..
-
Also so people can comment, 10mm should level this out nicely do we think?

It's on a Jamex kit shocks and springs, about 45mm, but custom rear springs which are probably around a 50mm drop... so hoping 10mm at the front will just close the front arch gap a little better :)

-
How do you find them mate? Did they noticably drop your front end a bit more?

Looks ok to me, if you drop another 10mm on the front I can see you getting rubbing issues.
-
Will find somewhere that sells them in a mo, limited on my phone lol
Didn't notice them being any harsher and definitely noticed them dropping the front end down
-
Dave your car in my eyes from that pic looks bang on.. tihnk you will get more and more problem if you go lower.. look nice
-
Supersport top mounts: http://www.venommotorsport.com/manufacturer_product.php?manufacturer=Supersport&category=Suspension&product=TopMounts
Or a cheaper option: FK lowering caps which will drop it another 10 to 15mm: http://www.venommotorsport.com/manufacturer_product.php?manufacturer=FK&category=suspension&product=SpringCaps&make=VW&model=Golf Mk 4
-
The car does drive well and I don't really get any problems that I can feel/hear at that height but.. :( Keep looking at that arch gap and the fact the back is lower and keep wondering.. lol :) Don't think I'd wanna go to coilies as it's quite comfy as it is.
-
I agree it looks spot on as is bud :afro:
-
just leave it as is buddy...
-
Don't forget the front and rear arches are different heights on the bodywork as standard
-
Looking at the sills it all sits level..
God you lot are sensible, as should I be lol maybe I'll just get OEM top mounts and save myself some dosh, I keep saying to mates whos cars are in the weeds its all well looking cool but if it drives like crap you've defeated the point of enjoying driving your motor.
Rich just wants to talk me outta it for obvious reasons haha :D
-
I posted these earlier: http://www.venommotorsport.com/manufacturer_product.php?manufacturer=FK&category=suspension&product=SpringCaps&make=VW&model=Golf Mk 4
Fit these and you should see a difference.
-
I looked mate but no price?? Not sure they have any of 'em if no price usually.

Would I need adjustable ARB drop links as obviously the lower you go people say of course they're prone for driveshafts catching the anti roll bar... The drivers catches when I drop off a sort of small kerb at work to exit the carpark so think they'd be a must if I go down 10mm more? Or is it different because of the top mounts, I think I'd go for the full top mount kit from supersport...
Photoshops are a bit small, sorry lol but I think it'd be ok. Don't want it to destroy the ride though, I don't drive it hard or anything mind.
-
If you use top spring plates the ride should say the same as you are not shortening the travel.
-
Are they reliable, or will they wear my top mounts out quickly? Anyone used these before as a cheap alternative to lower the front? :)

I have used them all ok, loads of people run them, will not affect the top mount.
The only difference is the shape (flatter) so they lower the front more.
-
A brief bit of googling suggests your springs can clonk/creak with these fitted :-S

I had no issue's on my mk3.
-

What?
-
As standard my front and rear looked different heights
-
The gap at the top suggests the top mounts are worn.
-
yea they are and im replacing soon, but people have said its normal to have a gap after fitting coilovers?
just wanted to elimante the gap
To be honest this was my mk3 even with new top mounts, I believe having a gap is always an issue with coilovers.

-
Don't think I've ever seen a lowered mk4 without that gap, mine has 'em on Jamex kit as it is now lol
-
they all have gaps dont they ?
-
if no gap then you will have rubbing at a guess ?
