Mk4 gti issues
« on: 13 March 2021, 21:55 »
Hi
Recently bought a gti 3 door. Drives great But..

1. Drivers fwd/back seat handle (like one in picture) keeps on falling off.. Is this a common problem and simple fix

Same for cover to rear view mirror doesn't stayed clicked together for long so stuck with duck tap at moment!

Finally, strange noise from back only when I am turning left round a corner, almost sounds like a rubbing sound

Any clues

Finally anyone know a gti expert in South Cheshire ( or should I say gti nut!)

Thanks

The seat release handle is a barb fitment onto a metal arm. Here's a relevant part number. 1J3881634B
If you look at an image it'll indicate how it fits on. You might get away with some araldite to hold it on.

Not sure what to suggest with the rear view mirror trim. If you take it off are the clips intact? Could be it's had a replacement screen and they were damaged in the process. You may find replacements from VW.

Turning left rubbing sound....  :undecided: Doesn't sound so good. Is this at low speeds? Is there any play in the wheel bearing?

Thanks so much

I'm not a mechanic so will try and jack the car up and I presume rock the wheel fwd and back?

Could it be serious... Its only appeared last few weeks

Cheers

If you aren't sure then get it looked at by a mechanic. Don't attempt anything like that on the jack as it'll possibly fall off. It should be up on axle-stands minimum.

Not sure what you paid for it. Even with all that work it's probably not worth a whole lot more than what you paid.
