Title: Engine Failure
Post by: bthornell on 14 May 2003, 16:54
I have a 1997 mk3 Golf GTI 8V,OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS I HAVE BEEN EXPIERENCING ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. THIS CAN HAPPEN AT TICK OVER OR EVEN WHILE BEING BOOTED. THE ENGINE WILL NOT RESTART STRAIGHT AWAY. I HAVE HAD A NEW COIL AND FUEL PUMP RELAY FITTED BUT THIS PROB STILL IS HAPPENING.
ANYONE ANY IDEAS WHAT TO TRY NEXT??

Re This problem, I have been told it maybe that the fuel  pump needs replacing, anyone got a second hand one they wanna sell?

When u go to start and it won't, does it turn and sound starved of fuel? - check fueling.

does it just go dead (electrical)- if so does it behave better in the cold or hot?  If it goes better in the cold could the heat be expanding soemting and disconnecting it, break in a circuit, wires etc...

Or do u have a immobiliser?  Get it disconnected, I would try it first, they all can fail.
