Not that I'm knocking the GTD, still a great car but with the economy that you can get from the GTI, unless you're doing silly miles it's surely a no brainer these days!?!? No abuse please, just my opinion!

…..and this may get some reactions, but besides the slightly more exclusive car, I'm sorry but the later GTI PP sound soooo good, even better than the R's!!

Because I brought mine pre-owned I actually looked underneath to see if some one had done a res delete on it!

25% better MPG from a GTD vs a GTI (assuming you aren't just driving 5 miles in traffic to work every day).

25% saving of fuel costs, not exactly to be sniffed at.... plus less CO2 (for those that care about such things...)
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

On my 3rd petrol car after a string of crappy diesel company cars and not sure I could go back to the black stuff. Unless my circumstances changed commute and work-wise. I'd take electric over a 4 cylinder diesel.
NOW - 330e M Sport
GONE - 2018 Mk7.5 GTI Performance 5dr DSG, Tungsten Silver, 2017 Mk7.5 GTI 5dr DSG, Indium Grey

While your general point is correct, I'm not sure on the maths!

25% increase in MPG results in a 20% saving.

20-25 percent increase in economy, but 20-25 percent reduction in power and no matter how good VW diesels are, no where near as refined..... have to agree with the earlier comments, I’ll be going hybrid before I go back to a 4 pot diesel, might be something to do with me only having a mile commute to the office though!

Have you thought about a bicycle?

Or maybe walking if there are footpaths en route .

My commute to work since April is about 20 yards as I now work from home, hence the 3300 miles on mine since I picked her up new in December.
2nd best selling car? - not surprised, large range to choose from, rock solid build quality and strong residuals. GTI is superb, drives like a normal family hatchback around town, a bit heavier on the right foot and it turns into a real hooligan - what’s not to like?
