Trying to get hold of some Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres. Was looking at the offer on Costco last week but as soon as I was about to sign up they were no longer showing up on the website. I'm after 225, 35, 19's.
Is it just my browser playing up or are they no longer available in that size on Costco?

225/35 R19 are far harder to get a hold of than 235/35 R19. Why not buy some 235/35 R19? Your overall tyre'd wheel diameter will increase by 7mm (1.1%) which is well within tolerances. Over the life of the tyre (7.5mm to 1.6mm), your wheel circumference will reduce by 11.8mm.

What's the wheel width? 7.5J or 8.0J? 235 width is top end for 7.5J but middle of the road for 8.0J.

I had same dilemma getting shot of the Bridgestones on the Polo GTI+. The 18" 7.5J Brescias came on 215/40 R18, which are rarer than rocking horse sh!te and cost 50% more than 225/40 R18 of same brand as a result, so got 225/40 R18 instead, which are still a perfect fit for a 7.5J width wheel.

Costco being as anal as Costco are, refused, while fitted to the car, to swap for anything other than 215/40 R18, because the computer says that is the right tyre for that car (should have given them a Golf GTI reg no!). The only way around it was to take the wheels off the car myself and give them to the fitters, and the refit them to the car myself.

Under offer, my 225/40 R18 were £316 the set for Michelin PS4. The 215/40 R18s in PS4 were coming in at £467 the set!
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I am looking at options for winter tyres.  I want to get Michelin PA4s 235/35R19, which are roughly £800.  Alternatively I could get some 18" wheels and have a better tyre choice (with cheaper tyres) in 225/40R18 or similar.
Anyone with similar experiences?  The car is in the North of Scotland with very wet roads and snow is not unusual even in November.  I have Cup 2's on at the minute and they will need to come off very soon!

Thanks!

Changing to a set of 18’s would be a good idea.
All it takes is one puncture and you kiss goodbye to £200 worth of tyre.
Plus you can keep a whole spare set of wheels and tyres for dedicated use.
I find it handy having a spare set of wheels for when you need a full sized spare or four, be it a puncture or having wheels in for refurb or whatever.

As an aside, there are two sets of wheels with winter tyres fitted and one set of 18” winter tyres for sale over on VWROC right now if you’re a member.

Thanks for the advice. The 225's are back in stock on Costco luckily. I've taken advantage of the £100 off 4 new Michelin Pilot sport 4 S tyres. Really looking forward to see how they perform, particularly in the wet.

Looking at replacing the Bridgestones, but surprised how many tryes are XL. Why is this? I don't drive with heavy loads so is there a disadvantage having XL tyres fitted?

Also looking for all season but there are few and far between too. Anyone driven the Michlin cross Climate XL  all season?

Bridgestone do an A005 all season tyre that is supposed to be very good.

Personally only every run Michelin's on my cars. Have tried plenty over the years but still think Michelin are the best.

Forgive me for veering off topic slightly here but I think there's a quick answer to this and didn't think it merited a new topic.

Is the suspension in the GTI PP the same as the suspension in the standard GTI? Reason I ask is that I had a PP test drive recently and it seemed a lot stiffer than a standard GTI I test drove a while back. Both were in Normal mode, no DCC. Maybe different tyres?
