Title: Brake Pressure Regulator
Post by: philstar on 26 June 2018, 13:34
I have a constant ratting coming from the NSR of my (slightly lowered) 16v - when I apply brake pressure it stops which leads me to believe it is the brake pressure regulator.

I had a look and the spring was indeed loose - so I moved the bottom bolt to the very end of the adjuster slot (only about an extra 10mm) but I can still hear the ratting.

The regulator itself opens and closes very easily. I cannot find any pictures of the correct operation of these components - the problem being that I don't know which position is open and which is closed. Does anybody have any photos they can share that will clear things up? All the posts I've found on the internet no longer have the photos attached.

...so the rattling was actually a loose rear wheel bearing, it keeps coming loose for some reason. I have new discs pads and bearings to go on during the weekend so I'll inspect everything then.

However, my initial confusion still stands regarding the operation of the brake pressure regulator, if anyone has any detailed labelled photos I would be most appreciative!

when you lower the car it puts more tension on the spring. so ideally you want to adjust the bolt slightly up from its original position. depends how much its lowered by though. and i'm not sure how sensitive the valve are to minor adjustments.

Handy information as I need to replace mine on my GTI as it's failed. Cheers for posting this up.
