am i the only person in the world who thinks castrol magnatec actually destroys engines?

Yeah, more than likely.

its not unfounded:-
latest addition to the dub  family mk2vr6 was advertised as a smoker, apparent stem seals, changed oil to aftermarket 10w40 3000 miles on no oil use..
when the oil was introduced years ago, brend new (recon actually) engine in my 205xs - 500 miles on magnatec and it was tapping like riverdance, changed back to a generic 10w40 and again silent engine...
saxo VTR first service 10K, used this stuff again, slight tapping again.. went to some comma 10w40 and a nice silent - but crap engine... (reasoning behind doing a DIY service was i imprted it from belgium personally and only has 12mth warranty)

just my personal preference i suppose but id put any premium motor factors brand in over that any day

Ive done lots of research and VW audi recommend fully synthetic 5W -30 oil.

Now ive been into my dealers Twice in the past and asked " What oil shoud i top up with please"
On both occasions i gave my reg number and was told " Castrol magnatec 10w 40 sir "
Bit confused.  Surely the dealer, and VW Audi, are the same thing?

Rich, have you always used 5w-30?

I've used magnatec on many cars for years, no problems to report. I hardly think years of research into oil, that they're going to let an oil ruin cars.
80% of your posts are total tripe, as they are mostly replies to sh1te posts created by the morons that, unfortunately this forum attracts.

When i said "VW audi recommend fully synthetic 5W -30 oil" this is info i have got from the internet and a few other sources.

When i went in to my local VW dealer thay told me "Castrol magnatec 10w 40"

I have used whatever vw changed mine with when being seviced by them.

I have used 10w40 to top aswell.

i just have tuned ears mate, i dont like the way they say it coats internals with some sort of teflon or spunk or summat... i have personally linked the effects to this..

by VW/audi he means manufacturer
by dealer he means dealer...

So everyone seems to be using 10-40.  Does seem weird as that's the same oil I used in my old C2, which didn't have a turbo or anything.
