Front shock absorbers

Hi all,

Just had an MOT advisory regarding the front shocks:

Nearside Front Shock absorbers light misting of oil or has limited damping effect (5.3.2 (b))
Offside Front Shock absorbers light misting of oil or has limited damping effect (5.3.2 (b))

Now the the suspension is a bit squeaky over bumps (seems others on here have experienced similar) but the car only has 45k on the clock so it seems a bit soon for new shocks. I have the DCC option so I'm guessing the cost of the shocks will be shocking (see what I did there?) Anyone else experienced similar or needed to replace their DCC shocks?

Thanks for the link. I want to keep the DCC rather than go the Bilstein / aftermarket option, but can't say I fancy shelling out the thick end of £1k for new front shocks after only 45k miles.

I found that TRW do shocks for the golf mk7 that say they are suitable for cars with 'electronic suspension control' -wonder if anyone has any knowledge of these?

Genuine DCC shocks are made by Monroe. They must be sold somewhere.

Front shocks will cost you £220 each from VW. Take it to a decent independent garage and they'll charge you around £50 per hour for fitting. You'll need a realignment too which cost me £99 from CLP in Sheffield.

Haha, thanks Ryan - sounds like we have both experienced the same thing.

That isn't too bad then - those are original VW DCC shcoks then? Did you order them from VW or let the indy garage do it? Good point re: allignment afterwards, hadn't thought of that.

It's pricey still, but don't really want to lose the DCC as it's so good,

I went directly to VW. I kind of wish I didn't have DCC now  because I would've gone with the Bilstein B12 kit.

Yeah, cost of replacement and lack of non-OEM options makes me think I might avoid DCC next time around even though it is good.

Out of interest, what shocks do people recommended if I were to ditch the DCC? I assume Bilsteins are the go to?
