Mine has been in 3 times, previously they applied lithium grease which worked for 1 day. Took in today as they said they were going to replace the suspension bushes but after looking at these they said they were not defective so couldn’t replace so they applied more grease! Obviously the noise is coming from somewhere else. Won’t hold my breath the grease will cure it
It's a common fault and there's a TPI covering it, so your dealership should be well aware of what it is they need to do. I had the front suspension rebuilt and boots replaced on my latest Mk8 GTI, after only 1,400 miles. I am delighted to say that it seems to have solved the problem.
I started hearing the usual squeaking and rattling noises after only 1,200 miles and knew what it was straightaway. This is because I had the same problem on my last Mk 8 and the dealership went through the old Lithium grease routine on my first visit, before conceding just a few months later that the boots needed replacing. This time, they didn't even argue about going straight to the rebuild/replacement part option. Lithium Grease only masks the problem; it is not the answer.
It's a disgrace that this is still a relatively common fault, some four years after the Mk8 was first launched.
