Where is the central locking pump
« on: 04 October 2016, 19:11 »
I wonder how many of you are saying "it's in the boot, drivers side" or "it's under the rear seat" .

Thats what i thought but it's not in either place, unless it's an invisible one .

Car is a MK3 1.4 N reg,base model.

Central locking works but not quite as it should.

I think the pump is o.k. but i'm puzzled as to where it is.

Hmmmm,i'm now wondering if it has an OE central locking system or maybe it has some kind of after market "thing" fitted.

Time to investigate further but in case i'm missing something please post any solutions

If it is factory fitted vac pump it could be behind real wheel arch or in boot floor next to spare tyre.

It's a no so far, nothing in boot at all and zero below the seat.

I'm thinking it's an after market one.

Car is basic, wind up windows, wobbly knob mirrors,no petrol flap lock (the spike thing) - it has a locking petrol cap (underneath the flap) which works off the original ignition key !!.

It's pretty basic so i'm thinking central locking was not fitted as standard hence it's probably got something like this :- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Car-Kit-Central-Door-Lock-Locking-Keyless-Remote-Control-Entry-DC-12V-/152147246088?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368

I will pull a door card tomorrow

When you lock it does it sound mechanical? Or is it more of a single clunk?
Take the plastic sill trim off inside and see if there's a light coloured, hard plastic pipe That should mean you have factory c/l
But it already sound like you've confirmed it being aftermarket

If it is OEM system, it doesn't look like pump
-it should be in a sort of polystyrene box, hung on a rubber strap & tucked right under the drivers tail light
look for the hard plastic vacuum lines  -iirc yellow - going to it.

An update for this thread;

Hatches (and possibly cabrios) have the o.e. central locking unit below the r/h rear light (the u.k's 'off side')

Variant estates can use either of two locations - early ones have it in the r/h rear corner of the spare wheel well, later ones behind the r/h side detachable panel (the one opened to reach the fuel filler locking pin if the unit fails)

Vento saloons are the most awkward, it's on the l/h side, well forward behind the boot trim panel and simply jammed in with some padding. Sunroof equipped cars have one of the drain tubes in the way as well.
