don't hear much on the tuning side of things on here , just seems to be bout problems with cars or fitting exhausts etc
do people not tune their engines - like cams, pulleys, inlet manifolds, enlarged throttle boddies, carbs, t/b's and aftermarket management etc
use to vauxhalls and some of the things u can do is silly - like 200bhp from a 1.6 16v (lots of money and work mind) but still do-able
any1 done diy turbo conversions or fitted superchargers etc ?
or is engine conversion the way to go - like a 1.8 T for example
-
8v's are the wrong engine's to start with, It's all about 16v's    then it gets fun!
-
in america they tune the 8v with turbo's.......but in the uk we dont see the point when the vr6 is little more cash
oh yeah the 16v can give about 170bhp with chip, exhaust, filter and head/cam work!! but let's not blow there trumpets too much :lipsrsealed:
-
you cant realy fit side draft carbs due to the engine lying back a bit, I looked into this.. it makes it tricky unless you have the US Head. you could bore the cylinders, fit good oversized pistons then fit a very well ported and polished head with Megasquirt ITB's hmmm of course cam it etc.. but then why? stupid money when you could drop in a 16V/VR6 engine.
-
Supercharger, seen a few 8vs with superchargers on them, dont know what they get? probs like 170bhp like the g60? or am i wrong, i dunno.
Either way, get a 1.8turbo engine........
pft.....

Too many 1.8 tuuuuurbs makes for a bunch of boring duuuurbs

Theres a guy on ed38 whos just seen 170 brake and over 200 ft/lbs of torque from an eaton charged 8v, hes looking to up the boost and run a decat and 4 branch and thinks he should see 200...
im aiming for 200 with my eaton also...
it depends on what you want from the engine too...

Preferably to stay in once piece? What pistons do you use with the supercharger? Dont say stacked gaskets

heard there is pistons from an audi that are direct fit.. dunno what model it was mind.

the 94-96 audi a4 2.0 uses the same ady/agg engines!! hence why there direct fit!!
oh and when i buy parts I buy them for a sharan 2.0 as they seem to be cheaper for some bizarre reason (same ady engine code in these!! but some service parts are lower cost and better avalibility??)
-
When fitting a supercharger? what have you got to replace/do before fitting it. Ideas on cost etc?
-
Ok, this is what im looking at...
Eaton charger
Fuel pressure regulator
Fuel pump
vr6 injectors
g60 headgasket spaced until i can get a spacer made up.
fab up the brackets
timing belt tensioner to keep the belt running tensioned
punto turbo intercooler
management (mr.turbo for me)
If i run a 16v head on the 8v bottom end, it will give good compression rates for forced induction.

Those are for 8v gtis are they not? Turbo kits though :/
Supercharger ftw
-
yes thats ringt, they only do them for the VR6 and 2.0 8v.

Nice. tempted by them, but wouldnt mind the eaton supercharger, seen a few of them online, they look hot.
Just want to know a rough price really on how mmuch it would cost to do.

so far ive paid...
£25 for injectors
£100 for the charger
£100 for the management
fpr-already had from carbs but 20 quid
fuel pump is a facet redtop from carbs, 50 quid
free punto intercooler n pipework
making the brackets with a mate
2 headgaskets be about 20-30 quid
1 aux belt about 6-7 quid
1 tensioner 10er max
thats me i hope haha

Exactly. The 2.0 8v is a favorite over here due to its reliability and wide availability. Plus we don't have to change expensive timing chains like VR6s.
Check out the Mk3Love user reviews (http://www.mk3love.com/reviews/) section for some info on available 2.0 8v parts (http://www.mk3love.com/reviews/tag/20-8v/). There are several pages listed.
Also as mentioned earlier, the Kinetic turbo kit (http://www.kineticmotorsport.com/catalog/MKIII_2_0L-98-1.html) or BBM supercharger kit (http://www.bahnbrenner.com/vw_audi/products/602/BBM_Supercharger_Kit_Lysholm_MKIII_2_0L) are also options.

superchangers take away something like 35% of the power they make.. Fit a turbo :undecided:
I turbed a 1.4L Mk3 golf for a laugh with my mates, actualy spent quite a bit.. .still runs to this day but its tucked up in the garage at the moment. Bit of a street sleeper, standard CL body
The turbo was off a volvo.. £50 from scrappy.. he fitted two metal head gaskets and used his amazing megasquirt ECU.. I did all the custom welding  Was expecting to boost it one for a laugh and have to tow it home, but it seems to run ok, last took it in september last year and did 400 miles odd over that month. Amazing realy its only an AEX engine. I wouldnt trust the engine, it always feels as if a pistons gunna come floping out the cylinder wall every time you boost it hard. haha
Anyway the point is u can boost any engine... and if done right will give good results.. or could blow up :undecided:

They have the crossflow head, makes turboing the engine a heck of alot easier.. Which i suppose is why superchagers are a much easier choice.... We are stuck with these awkward counterflow heads

Bringing this back from the dead...
Just been on the forums in South Africa talking about my management..
Sending my eaton off to have the brackets fabbed up by nando off E38.
i think by the time im done i should have spent about 5-600 on the conversion.
-
Welshy... I take it that's £500-£600... on parts only.... how much workshop time?
-
none at the moment...
been speaking to some guys in south africa and the management i have is like megasquirt...
So ill be mapping the injector on my own... i have a wideband to keep an eye on fuelling :D
WINNER
-
back from the dead again - welshy - did you get anywhere on this?
reason for asking is that I am starting to think along these lines myself

Mk3 1995 golf GTI 8v with a Mercedes c230 supercharger g60 injectors and a adjustable fuel regulator 176 bhp 273 torque. Stock internals and standard ECU. Not bad for my first build
