The pcp deal fo my 2015 mk7 match is coming to an end and I’m currently negotiating a deal for a new build GTI.
Thing is, I’m not sure about the colour to get. Originally I was sold on tornado red, but now not so sure. I’m between indium grey and black at the moment. Anyone with experience of either and what they’re like day to day (not just in the sunny/shiny shots)
Also happy enough with the stock spec. Anything I should really be adding on? Climate windscreen, 90% tint on rear were the ones I was thinking.
Ta in advance!
-
Picked black when I bought mine new, ended up swapping for an older white 12 months later because black was torture to keep clean and swirl free, this new paint on modern cars is really soft and black highlights every minor mark...hope this helps
-
Thanks.
I had a mk6 GTD in black and it wasn’t too bad on swirls. Looked fantastic clean though. I was doing 60 Miles a day in it so it never stayed clean long. New job means 60 Miles a week now so might be better.
My wife has an Audi A4 in white and it’s just as bad to keep looking clean so avoiding white I think.
-
Climate screen is worth having i'd say. Although it doesn't seem quite as effective (to me) as the older type heated screen with the wires through the glass.
90% tints split opinion. They look better with some colours than others. I'd avoid them with black paint unless you are in the narcotics trade.
-
That’s a good point on the tint! I’ve got 65% on my match and it’s good enough I suppose.
Have you had to change your climate windscreen yet? Is it a simple switch? I only ask as on my wife’s A4, a windscreen change involved a half day out to an Autoglass in Bedford as the sensors all needed recalibration. I’ve not had best of luck with stone chips 😩
-
Every day is a sunny day with Tornado Red
-
If you don't want to ever clean it, get silver.
That's a pro tip from an ex company car driver
-
I wanted a silver car, but there is not genuine silver option on the GTI pp I ordered. Only white silver, or tungsten silver. So, I went for Atlantic Blue instead! Probably will regret such a dark colour when the swirl marks appear!
Just got delivery date to dealer confirmed as 21/6/18, so hoping all on track for end June delivery to me as my current A4 lease expires.
Other than metallic, I did not add anything. I know there are some cool options to be had, but the stock GTI pp comes loaded compared to my current A4 Sport. I have counted 19 additional features so far!
-
Tungsten silver is a beautiful colour. If someone reminds me how to post pics I'll show you just how beautiful

I was tempted. But not seen one for real. Anyway, got to live with my choice now.
Main thing is going from 1.4 150ps manual A4 to 2.0 245ps DSG Golf! Can't wait!

mcmaddy, yes that does look very nice! I will post my Atlantic blue car on here when it comes. Will look nice on a sunny day, probably very dark and boring on a cloudy day.
-
Thanks John F. Colours are always a very subjective thing but I do love Tungsten.
-
The silver does look nice but not for me I think. The indium grey is probably as light as I’d go.
-
I think Indium grey is the pick (in a limited enough bunch) of the current colours. There's a few very good pics of new GTI's in that colour on this forum.
-
Indium is too dark for me although if Tungsten is removed I'd probably look at it

Fortunately no replacement screen needed yet, it's bearing up pretty well considering the amount of motorway mileage sees. Like the reversing camera, it's a relatively inexpensive option that serves a useful purpose.
What was so complicated about the screen on the A4 that it required so much calibration? I know there is a camera behind the screen if you have lane assist.

Question:
Can any reader tell me why Reflex Silver has been such an unpopular choice on the Mk7 performance golfs? I think I have only seen one R, a few GTDs and a few GTIs in RS over the last 5 years. And VW deleted it for the 7.5.
I bought a new 3/17 v late 7 GTI in Reflex Silver just to get one, so fond am I of the colour.
I don’t know of another colour that shows the crease lines and concave curves as well in every light.
And it never looks dirty.
Thoughts anyone?
PS : anyone actually got a Reflex Silver car?

Very underrated colour, Tungsten Silver. Looks fantastic here;-

The Audi pre-sense works from the same camera. When the screen is replaced they need to recalibrate the camera. Very high tech - they had a board on a trolley that they had to line up front of the car to set it up 😂
-
This loaner "R" I have at present has the 90% tinted windows. Thought there was something wrong with the rear view mirror when I looked though it last night, really quite dark. Sorry, not a fan of this option, think the standard "free" tints are perfectly adequate.

Looks like I’ve saved £95!
Going for a test drive in a tornado red one this morning. PCP offer is £350 over 48 month, 10k Miles with £1000 down. Will see if they’ll chuck in the service plan too
-
You used to get the service plan for 149 if you took out VW finance. This was for a two year plan.
-
there’s a service plan on the configurator for £296, but no idea what you get for that.
On my Match it was £19.99 a month for 3 services. VWFS had problems processing it - several months of no direct debits- so eventually gave me it for free!
-
Check the offers page on the VW website.
-
Current offer on servicing; First two services £159 if buying your car with Solutions PCP from VWFS.

That’s showing as £296 or £16.42 a month when I click through.

Well I’ve gone and ordered one!
Gone for black in the end and ditched the 90% tints.
It’s a factory order, so not expecting it until September, which means 68 plate, and maybe MY19 depending on build date.
-
Excellent! So what have you gone for?

Yes, that’s correct. That’s what you pay if you don’t buy your car on PCP with VWFS. With a VWFS PCP, first two services are £159.
The £159 offer is under...........Offers!, which is where forum member mcmaddy suggested you looked.

Thanks. The link was just going to the under 1 year offer rather than new purchase.
That’s a pretty good deal. I’ll be doing that.
-
Colh you might get an earlier delivery date. I ordered mine on April 12th. It was built week of May 14th, and is due at the dealer week of June 21, with delivery to me by end June hopefully as that ties in with the end of my current A4 lease.
So, ordering on May 19th, you might be looking at end July/early August delivery. Then, you may with to request a delay to get the 68 plate instead of an 18 with only a month to go before the plate change.
-
Looks like there a freeze on orders at the moment. My dealer is still waiting on factory confirmation but the standard GTI is no longer available according to @vwukhelp and it’s not on the configuration tool either.
Still hopeful, but half expecting a returned deposit in a week or so. Dealer reckons it’s all ok but we’ll see.
There’s another thread on the non-PP going at the moment

Black is a great choice....needs regular cleaning though.
I went Tornado Red is a GTI :), I nearly bought Indium but in the end thought it was too conservative, more suited to Passats  Great colour though.
And agree you don't need 90% tints, the 65% is fine.
Tbh I don't really think you need any extras, spend the money you save on some lightweight alloys...
-
Colh, bad news on the standard GTI then.
Have you considered the PP version? That's what I am getting via a lease, and it was actually about 2 quid per month less than a standard car at the time, which obviously surprised me. The lease company said it was due to better residuals on the PP model.
I see that the lease has gone up a bit compared to the deal I got in April via Nationwide Vehicle Contracts, but it still looks pretty good. I am getting a 5dr DSG car including metallic over 36 months, non-maintained. Here is their current offer on that model.
