Battery Replacement/Radio Codes MK6 GTI
« on: 08 May 2020, 14:47 »
I am changing the battery next week in my MK6 GTI.  I dont seem to have my radio code in the VW Wallet (only have the owners manual and phone guide).

Will this be needed if i swap out the battery?  My Gti has the basic radio.

Thanks

You will not need code if it’s the original radio

Mine recognises the original radio so didnt seem to need the code. If its had a replacement radio at some point you will need to get the code from a VW dealer. For example if someone has upgraded it by retrofitting the satnav unit or it has been replaced by the dealer due to a faulty unit under warrenty for example

Also, when you first start the car, you'll get a million and one warning lights and bongs going off. This is normal, and they'll all go away after a few miles down the road.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Thanks all.  Yeah I swapped the battery fine for an Exide Premium. All went well and the radio worked just fine.  Driving for 5 mins reset the dash warning lights.
