there is a cheat for natural looking feeder shots...

get a reasonably sized branch... preferably with a bit of moss in it, place it in a clamp about 2 or 3 meters away from the feeders and make sure that the background is a natural one like a bush or tree... you can then use a wider aperture to enhance the depth of field and have the bird perched on the branch perfectly in focus...

either use a hide or a remote trigger for the camera on a tripod - the birds will use the perch to await their turn on the feeder and make sure everything is safe (it might take up to two weeks)

That's a really good idea. :smiley:

i got that from a birdwatching magazine... set the perch up about 2 weeks before you intend to take the photos... that way the little feathered chaps will get used to it... and you can see how they are using it, specifically, where they are landing on it  :wink:
