We had a family reunion and it's the first time we've all been together in a few years.

Been a while since I posted anything in here, and I got me a DSLR now too. Nothing expensive or flashy, but a Sony Alpha 100, second hand.

thank you  i was a bit gutted as it was evening and the light was crap... had to use a really high ISO

am going to have another go next time I am at my dad's house (where I took the photos) and see if I can get a shot in the morning

my personal fave is the robin.. although I have been too lazy to edit out the shadow and would prefer it if he wasn't on a fat ball

Nice detail in your shots. I took pictures of birds on bird feeders to start with for practice but prefer the more natural look.

Have found spot metering is good for bird photography.

Here's a couple of Robin pictures I took a while back:

there is a cheat for natural looking feeder shots...

get a reasonably sized branch... preferably with a bit of moss in it, place it in a clamp about 2 or 3 meters away from the feeders and make sure that the background is a natural one like a bush or tree... you can then use a wider aperture to enhance the depth of field and have the bird perched on the branch perfectly in focus...

either use a hide or a remote trigger for the camera on a tripod - the birds will use the perch to await their turn on the feeder and make sure everything is safe (it might take up to two weeks)
