Not bad for a first attempt. Posing for self portraits is so hard isn't it?

Yep, especially on self timer! Think this needs more light but needed a lighting stand and brolly really as the flash was too harsh.

or you can make a home made snoot / diffuser / softbox from some cardboard and an old milk bottle, fully blue peter style but will work

but a light stand and brolly can be had quite cheap from ebay about £35 for both i rekon you could get it for dude

for hard light I prefer the flash to be at more of an angle so that you get a more dramatic look, basically where you've got it but if you were looking at the camera, a stand is helpful too as you can have the flash head height.  Great first attempt though :afro:

2 flash guns will give you alot more control, just seeing what nick was able to do with a few stands and umbrellas was awesome, its just getting the hang of where to palce them etc

I love stobist

I can probably sort accommodation down here for a weekend off-season if people are interested.

Rumour has it the light's quite good round here.

Sunset at the Gaffers Festival last night.

Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

That's not a bad idea, what sorts of costs are involved (crossings etc).

Back end of Sept car with four people in it = £40-50 return.

Probably sort a house for Friday & Saturday night for 8-10 people for £20 per person and the workshop should be operational for any repairs over the weekend, too.

I can definitely put together an itinerary for some spectacular shooting locations, too.
