I managed to do it without keys in the end. I took the two thin strips of trim off either side of the radio and managed to pop it out with a pair of screwdrivers. Easy peasy  :grin:

i went to a vw garage and asked the guy behind the countewr if they had any puller things i could borrow..

hey presto he leant me some from the garage
