Removing Standard Headunit from MK4?
« on: 24 December 2008, 17:06 »

It looks pretty tight nit. I've got some keys but not had a crack at it yet. Is it as simple as shoving the keys in and removing the radio or do i need to remove some of the dash surround?

Thanks

just slot the keys in either side and pull it out
if you are struggling you may have pushed the keys in on the wrong side of the securing tabs if thats the case then you will probably have to remove the entire dash facia to get it out
if you need to remove the dash facia you WILL have to remove the glove box the drivers side lower dash trim and the centre console

You are inserting the keys in the right place and not down the side of the head unit?! There's designated slots for them. Also make sure they are the right way up!

you wanna be using the euro removal keys that have allocated direction for insertion.
the slots are located just inside of the edge horizontally. the euro keys go in a particular way but u do not need to push them all the way in as the springs that are holding the radio in are relatively near to the front of the radio face. Push euro keys in slightly and using the ringpull ends of they keys, lift them up and pull gently and the radio should just slide str8 out freely!

All the best.
Why pay big bucks when you can do it yourself???

Halfords sell them in their audio section with all the adapters.

VW should do a set aswell though
