hi ..my 2014 golf gtd needs a timinbelt and water pump needs changing in the next 2 weeks , I was just wondering how much the vw dealers charge for this . my local vw specialist has quoted me £420 pounds the reason im asking is that hes closing down in may and concerned about warrenty cheers

According to VW website, they charge £549
https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/fixed-price-servicing
But you could always ring them and ask if that's negotiable.

I'm also getting mine done in the next couple of weeks, a local indy quoted me £500 so on that basis £420 is a good price.

£499 at a Skoda dealership. Same engine in the VRs + 2 year warranty. Why does VW charge more?
-
When should the belt and water pump be changed?
Mine is a 2014 Gti (non PP) with 26k miles. (I always thought it was a chain in the Mk 7?)
Cheers.

GTI has a chain, but OP’s car is a GTD which has a belt.

hi there rang the stealers yesterday and after a bit of bartering got the price from 549 to 450 going in next Wednesday ... the women at the call centre gave me 10% off taking it to £499 I said I wanted more so the dealer rang me back and gave it for £450 hope this is a good result

Good result.
Nothing against the indy's, i'm sure they're competent enough. But I just suspect (hope), you'd get a bit more goodwill from VW if there's a major problem later in the cars life if you've done everything 'their' way. However I completely understand the argument for using an indy if they're a good bit cheaper.

Ah yes thanks-I hadn't twigged the GTD reference-I was sure it was a chain but I was beginning to wonder.

Skoda charge £499 for the cambelt, tensioners and water pump but if you call your local Seat dealer they should price match and give you a free 5 year warranty too.

From a dealer who sells on line.
Genuine VW timing belt kit is £105.65 inc vat, the Genuine VW Water Pump is £89.99 inc vat
Buy the parts and ask them to fit.
