Borbett FF1 Wheels
« on: 16 March 2019, 20:15 »

Looking at changing the wheels on the GTIP.  Really like the genuine Belvedere wheels but both availability and price in the UK put me off. Just wondered whether anyone has the Borbett FF1s fitted as an alternative and is all well with these wheels.

Thanks, the link is really helpful and the wheels look good. Would the FF1s be a direct fit on the hub/same borehole etc. When i look on the Borbett website it mentions two different offsets - 35mm and 45mm which totally baffles me.  Would i need the 35 or 45 for the GTI?

Definitely 45mm. Remember, they do not produce them only for GTIs (that's why the 35mm option).

I've been considering the FF1s too. Does anyone know if changing your wheels affects your insurance premiums? And if so, by how much roughly?

Depends on the company, some don’t really care so long as you aren’t changing the wheel size, some see it as you making the car more theif attractive. Either way I’d think a mod like that would only incur probably an admin fee and minimal change.

If it were me I’d go for 8x18 and 45mm front and 35mm rear offset with 225/40/18 tyres. They’ll all sit reasonably flush that way.
They make them in 57.1 centre bore too so don’t even need spigot rings. Plus the bolt holes should be wide enough to use the original nut caps which is rare with aftermarket wheels.
