Reversing lights wiring fault.

Common fault on the mk4 is the reversing lights to stop working this is usually caused by a the wiring braking off on the switch on the gearbox. Have a look under the cover on top of the gearbox.

Definitely check this first before buying a new switch!!

Have a look at this pic:






The wires are bought seperately from the plug, it depends on the diameter of the wire which repair wire you will need (0.35mm or 1mm) - 1 wire has two connectors on it and can be cut in half to make two repair wires

Whether this wire issue would tigger an engine cut off when put to reverse gear. OR this is just for reverse light ??

I have a problem, when I put the car in reverse the engine cuts off completely and the cluster goes crazy for few seconds. I removed the reverse bulbs from the holder in order not to let the engine cut off when reversing. But as you know, reverse lights are essential so I must fix this problem. Should I change the switch, or is there a problem with the wiring ? Thanks.
