Booked the car in for a major service at VW.

They wanted to charge me £399 and when I questioned the price all they said "it's because it's a GTi"

What does everyone else pay from the dealership?

I thought the website set price is £349 unless they are charging extra for variable mileage ? Or extras ie brake fluid?

I’ve been cheeky in the past and asked for a discount too. Normally £20-30 off. Speak to the dealer not the call centre.

Shouldn’t make any difference if it’s a GTI or not.

The fixed price service costs at the link posted by Rob_benton apply to all VW passenger cars over 3 years old, with the exception of cars with an engine size greater than 2.0 litres, the e-up!, e-Golf, Golf GTE, Passat GTE and Phaeton. Even if the prices are different for cars under 3 years old, I’d be very surprised if the price for the Golf GTI was different to other VW’s. Also, if you take one of the VW service plans, there isn’t a higher priced GTI-specific service plan; you pay the same price whether you have a 1.0 Polo or a 2.0 Golf GTI.

I’d challenge the dealer on the price quoted and get them to explain why it’s higher than the price on VW’s website. And it’s not because you’ve got a GTI! If you’re unhappy with the explanation, go to a different VW dealer.

I'd shop around if I was you and see what other dealers are willing to do. That engine is used in Tiguans and other cars so hardly unique to the GTI.

And I'd be tempted to look at a specialist as well and see what the (massive) difference will be....

I don't think I'll be taking my car to a main VW dealer for services in future.
I'd rather trust my car to an independent specialist like Awesome GTI, who luckily for me, are not far too away

tbh I usually take my car to Awesome GTI. So having spoke with the dealership they've dropped the price to £349, they never did say why they'd quoted me £399 initially. There always seems to be an issue whenever I take my car into VW, their customer service is absolutely piss poor. Maybe it's just me, I don't know.

Finally got around to washing it.
Nearly three years into ownership and I still haven't come across a car I'd rather have, given a sensible budget ( other than a clubsport  )

Very smart looking . And I feel the same way too although I'd happily add an R to the list.
