Airbag light on since installing new stereo
« on: 28 June 2016, 11:29 »
Hey,

New to the forum and even newer to becoming the owner of my 2010 MK6 Golf GTi.

A DSG with only 19K on the clock, I love her!... Immediately learning however that I need to watch for this failed chain tensioner im seeing all over the forum.  Is it worth me replacing this now?, or can I go through VW on a recall?... options?

Anyway, as per the subject, I decided to upgrade the stereo yesterday.  I didn't think to disconnect the battery, and since putting the whole unit together, my Airbag fault light has now come on, and won't go off.

I've read around these pages, an im lead to believe it can be easily rectified with a VCDS.

Is there any kind person around the Chester/Cheshire/Ellesmere Port/Runcorn area who can kindly help in exchange for beer tokens or something?

and... if anybody is selling a VCDS, i'm interested also.

Many Thanks,
Jay

Did you take the climate control panel out, therefore disconnect the air bag light? If so, when you turn the ignition on with the light unplugged, it stores a fault code.

You just need to clear the fault codes with VCDS. I would offer, but I'm about 2 hours from you.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

You are correct Dubber36, I did exactly that.  Turned on the ignition with everything (including the climate panel un-plugged to ensure the stereo was functional prior to putting it all back together.

Thank you for the confirmation.

Anybody able to help with a VCDS please? :)

No probs, thanks though

Pricing up a VCDS today anyway as it may come in useful for other little changes I want to make whilst owning the car.

I would, it's a great bit of kit. My missus went mental when I told her I'd spent out on it, but it's proved invaluable with both of mine, and she now admits it was a great buy, it's saved me lots in turning off airbag fault lights with my project cabrio.

VCDS purchased!

Performed an auto-scan, removed all DTC's and all is good in the hood!

Now need to learn what other options one has with a VCDS  :smug:

Thanks for the help everyone!
