Title: Dashboard 'carbon effect' panel cleaning on mark 7
Post by: martin998877 on 24 September 2019, 08:04
Hi

On the mark 7 GTi, the dashboard area around the radio and nav screen and heater controls is a black shiny plastic designed to look like carbon fibre.

Mine however has remnants from the previous owner of patches that look like fingerprints - certainly an inconsistent sheen depending on where it's been touched etc.

What do you recommend for cleaning?  So far I have used water on a duster but it hasn't really sorted it.  I need to be careful as the rubber air vent control wheels are in the vicinity - I don't want to get the dashboard looking great at the expense of deposits on the rubber wheels!

Many thanks

I find this quite tricky to get a consistent finish on as well. It may sound a little odd, but I use a wax on it, ODK revere to be exact, and then try not to touch it with any liquid afterwards, instead I just dust it with a soft brush. I'm sure other waxes would give a good even finish as well, although not all do as I've tried a few.
