Mk7 GTI Tyres
« on: 13 December 2017, 23:09 »
Was wondering if you could all help me out. Just had my first puncture in the new car after under 3000 miles (just my luck). Does anyone have any experience of how much VW will charge for and to fit new P Zeros? And whether it’s worth getting it done somewhere else?

Oh and from reading everyone’s raves about the Michelin Supersports. Potentially a better option?

Can't it be repaired then? Blackcircles worth a go, you can price up online and if you want to use a maindealer then you'll have an idea if their's is a good price. Last time I looked on Blackcircles they were about £150 each for 19s.

That’s a good point, I’m not sure. I know VW will try and sell me the world. So may check with a Kwik fit beforehand if it can be repaired.

Try a decent independent tyre place. They are more likely to repair if it’s pissible. The big places will be in target to sell new Tyres.

Agree with Davy.

I'd be looking on the interweb for tyre prices first, then try a decent independent tyre fitter to see if your damaged tyre is repairable. They're more likely to look after you (and your wheels) than a Kwik Fit type establishment.

If you don't know any local independent tyre fitters, try putting your postcode in on Black Circles or Mytyres websites.

Money on it a VW dealer won't repair a puncture, only replace the tyre...

I wouldn't go anywhere near a main dealer for tyres though ever. Pretty much any of the tyre specialists are a better bet.

Don't forget to pay special attention to the state of your wheels before they swap the rubber though... perfectly possible they will damage your easily damaged wheels!

Did the tyre go flat? Was it driven on? If so, this could damage the sidewall and the rims.

1 of my tyres was repairable and 2 of my wife's tyres were not fixable. The puncture must be a least 1 inch from the sidewall.

It is explained on the Kwikfit website - https://www.kwik-fit.com/tyres/information/tyre-repair

^This.

Ensure you agree the condition of your wheels with whoever you go to to get the puncture repaired or tyre replaced, and take photos of your wheels. If your wheels are diamond cut, they’re very easily damaged by poorly maintained tyre fitting equipment or a careless tyre fitter, and a good diamond cut wheel refurbishment is likely to cost in the region of £80-90 plus VAT.

OP; If you do need a new tyre, IMO it’s better to buy your tyres from somewhere like Camskill or Love Tyres on line at a good price, and then pay a local independent tyre fitting firm with a good reputation to fit them.

Kwik Fit Mobile fitting is around 15% cheaper than going to actual fitting place. I have used them twice recently and both times excellent.
