I've just done mine, did it to the last golf too.
 Its not that hard just takes abit of time, you could have the inlet manifold looking reasonable in an evening easy enough.

 agreed, its well worth the time and effort. Havent started on my golf yet but spent hours polishing stuff under the bonnet on the FTO. Mind you, saying that, no one ever sees it, lol
