I'm 19, owner my 2.0L 8v for a year and a half and its great.

DSG intake, Panel filter and exhaust and you will see a fair bit of performance improvement.

Elephant has been cheapest 2 years running for me so if you havnt already done the insurance thats the one to go for

Problems you'l probably encounter are:
1. OIL!!!!!!! CHECK EVERY WEEK!!!! 2.0L 8V drinks oil!!
2. MAF, ive been through 5 in the past year and its just gone again this week
3. HT Leads, tend to go, i've been through 2 sets.

Other than that they are pretty sound. I've had trouble with head gaskit and exhaust manifold but that was probably because my car hadnt been services in 50,000 miles lol.

Great cruising car, mega comfortable, get decent MPG if you keep the oil topped up and dont horse it

I used to have a 2.0 GTi a while ago, It wasnt as bad as people make out, Not exactly the quickest car but was very solid & drove really well.

Get a set of nice wheels on it & go a bit lower then enjoy it

+1       had mine a year and half now.Im still in love with it.the 1st mot needed frount lamba,2nd need some ,{frount steering rods,[or what ever there called] just for mot, left was addvisory.
if you choose your race's wisely,,,, then it will leave you smileing all the time :) Ok yes to start with it used a lot of water, but fixed that.Mine doesnt use all that much oil,but it likes petrol.
but i love it

Had mine just over a year and had no MAF problems  they certainly do go through a lot of oil though! They're not the quickest cars around but they aren't bad cars atall. Do what i did teccers and build up your NCB etc and get a 1.8t  no point spending silly amounts on insurance

I'm not really sure i'll ever bother saving for a 20vT. I love my 2.0 8v, will keep this until i have the money for the F430/599 Fiorino

But seriously there great cars. Most come very high spec, get good MPG and have enough power to embarass plenty of other cars off the lights. Last year i was neck and neck with my mate in his Lexus IS200, you would thing a 2.5L would kill a 2.0 8v but between 95-115 i was pulling out quite a lead

Obviously on a controlled private circuit

Cheers for the replies guys.

What's a DSG intake? I'm a bit new to all this.

I'm with Admiral and they ain't too bad with me.

I've read a lot about this oil issue so i will keep an eye on it weekly. Cheers for the heads up smitty. Just had a look at you're project blog, like the unique changes you've done to the car.
