I took gamma tape player out of my car and now when I put it back in its in safe mode... Should this not decode if it's the original unit off of the ecu ?

Sorry to raise an old thread from the dead lads.

Scotty how did u get the radio back on. Got another gti and the radio is on safe mode. Left the battery disconnected over night and just shows "safe" still.

Going to remove the fuse from the radio see if it makes any difference.

Cheers

Have you the original manual that came with the car? Should be in there, if not, I have a gamma radio with code that will be surplus to requirement soon, sooner if you need it.

Nope, checked it. The stero does not move from safe mode. No small 2 symbol either. The lights do not illluminate too with the dash.

Bought one of ebay with a code so hopefully all good.

So the plot thickens.

Got the radio working via holidng down the tp and rds buttons, then the power and it comes straight on and works.

Until.......you turn the radio of or car again, it resets into safe mode everytime. vagcom shows a incorrect coded module via block 56 when in safe mode and the softcoding is 00000.

Recode it to 01403 whilst in safe mode and then go into fault codes and the above dtc is gone showing the correct fault with a blown speaker.  even still when i quit vagcom and try and turn it on again it  reverts back to safe mode.

Now when i press the above buttons and get the radio working ( without the need of inputting a code), vagcom shows the softcoding still as 00000. Again recoded as above, exit vagcom and the radio is working as normal, but it was already powered on before going into diagnostic mode. Go back into vagcom and and softcoding is at 01403.

But when i turn it off again it agoes back into safe.

I Replaced the dodgy altenator fuse and other fuses above the battery as it was ready for melting into the battery. No issues with the battery itself it is good and the clocks do not reset. No other electeic issues

Any ideas guys before i bin the radio? Was thinking perhaps the 12v live could be a culprit. To me it keeps forgetting its in the car eveytime your turn it off and to get it speaking, you have to manually press the above buttons to get it on. reading i have done online suggested it should come back to life on its own and should not hold down the buttons.

Thanks
